In Australia, as elsewhere, we guess, harness racing - pacing and trotting
horses pulling sulkies - is the working man's equine sport.
Our original syndicate, formed in 1995, comprised four Melbourne working men - all in the media - with a passion for the sport. We started with one pacer then another. We eventually had a third pacer, and increased the syndicate to seven of our golfing members. But alas, only the noble Gobemouche provided enough excitement for us. We've moved on now - Gobemouche, Mighty Vee and Hollow Legs have all retired - and in April 2004 the four of us plus a newcomer bought into a new horse, a trotter this time, who will race by the name of Make the Cut He may race either late in 2005 or ealy 2006. After some early hiccups he is starting to show some good signs. He's with Alan Bailey who has brought him along nicely.

Gobemouche
Gobemouche (pictured at the start of this page) was our first investment and by far the most successful even though our two other horses, Mighty Vee and Hollow Legs, each won two races. It's a big enough effort just to get to the racetrack so we can't complain.
Gobemouche (Sox)was a bay/brown gelding, foaled on December 12, 1993, out of Bop Girl by Nuke of Earl. As at November 2005 Bop Girl still had progeny performing well on the track.
Sox had his first race start on May 10, 1996, at Cranbourne in a heat of the Victoria Sires Stakes for 2yo colts and geldings, 2080 metres.
Starting at 15-1 ($49 on the win tote in Victoria but $100 interstate). He went on to contest an Interdominion (after we sold him of course) and missed making the final by a point after landing a second in a heat even after suffering travel sickness on the trip to Sydney.
