11/19/97- Cubs traded for P Kurt Miller fo the Florida Marlines for a PTBNL
11/21/97- Cubs bought the contracts of pitchers Justin Speier, Jose Espanal and Jason Ryan and Infielder Jose Neives, and added them to the 40 man roster.
12/09/97- Alan Regier was named the Minor League field instructor
12/10/97- Cubs signed SS Jeff Blauser formerely of the Atlanta Braves to a two year contract with a
club option for the year 2000
12/12/97- Cubs traded for Blue Jays minor league catehr Sandy Martinez
12/13/97- Cubs traded P Miguel Batista for Montreal Expos OF Henry Rodriguez and agreed to a one
year contract with him
12/18/97- sent P Trevor Schaffer to the Blue Jays to complete a previous trade
12/19/97- Announced P Kent Bottenfield would not be offered a contract
12/24/97- Cubs traded CF Doug Glanville to the Phillies for second baseman Mickey Morandini
12/29/97- Signed OF Matt Mieske formally of the Milwaukee Brewers
1/06/98- Invited seven non roster players to spring training including pitchers Kerry Wood,
Ben VanRyn, and Kenny Steenstra, catchers Jose Molina and Alan Zinter, infielder Tim Unroe, and outfielder Derrick White
1/15/98- Cubs signed FA closer Rod Beck formerely of the SF Giants
1/19/98- Signed P Kevin Foster to a one year deal and P Mark Clark to one year contracts avoiding
salary arbitration
1/26/98- Cubs signed infielder Manny Alexander to a one year deal to avoid salary arbitration
2/02/98- Cubs sined LHP Terry Mulholland to a one year contract
2/10/98-Cubs signed infielder Jose Hernandez to a one year contract avoiding salary arbitration
2/13/98- Cubs signed P Steve Trachsel avoiding arbitration. Cubs signed C Takaai Kato
of Japan to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Mesa (rookie) of the Arizona League
