PackBacker's Amazingly Simple Life Story

Well, if you are here, then you probably know who I am. But, if there are souls out there who do not know me and for some odd reason are interested in me, well here goes.....

My real name is Paul Arfmann. No my parents really didn't name me PackBacker! PackBacker is simply a nickname I've used on the internet and over e-mail for the past five years or so. PackBacker itself refers to a backer of the North Carolina State Wolfpack. But I get ahead of myself.

I am a twenty three year old  student at North Carolina State University.  I double majored in Animal Science and Multi-Disciplinary Studies "The Social Impact of Science".  I finally graduated in May of 2000.  This didn't signify the end of my schooling, however, as I am continuing on for another four years at the  vet school in efforts to receive a DVM degree.  The dream I envision is working in a small animal vet clinic for awhile and then biting the bullet and maybe starting one of my one. But, that is years down the road!  I still haven't ruled out working with swine although that seems to be a bit of a longshot.

I have spent my whole life living in North Carolina and I cannot think of living anywhere else the rest of my life. I was born in Winston-Salem, and then moved out to Lewisville where I spent the next 16 years of my life. Now, I am living almost exclusively in the Raleigh area.  I still miss the Lewisville area tremendously and it hurts to see the all consuming blob of Winston-Salem destroying what is left of Forsyth County.

Here at NC State I attend as many sporting events as possible, thus my nickname. I missed only one football and one basketball game in my five years as an undergrad.  Yes obsessive is the best term to describe me. I also go to as many baseball and women's basketball games as I can. And yes, I am one of those garishly dressed college students that tend to flaunt themselves on ESPN.  I'm also a member of the Student Wolfpack Club and former board member.

Sports are a large part of my life. I am not too swift at playing sports, but I love nothing better than to watch them. I am a long time follower of the New York Yankees. I profess to be the largest Yankees and Don Mattingly fan in the state of North Carolina... Besides baseball, my personal favorite, I follow the Buffalo Bills, Utah Jazz, and the Carolina Panthers.

So what else is there to me? Well, I am an avid whitewater enthusiast. I try to make a yearly trip up to the New River or Gauley River in West Virginia. When not in class I like to try to relax by listening to Billy Joel and reading the best horror novels I can. Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Robert McCammon, John Saul, and Clive Barker all grace my shelves. I also am a big fan of certain television shows. The Simpsons, the X-Files, and the now departed seaQuest DSV are by far my favorites.

Travel is another thing I LOVE to do. Hopefully I will soon get some travel pics scanned in for the page. I have traveled to Egypt, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Holland, and England. People often ask me for a favorite place, but I simply cannot single out one! I must say, though, that there is no contest for best cuisine--- Italy hands down!

Well, I am sure there is more, but if you have read this far I will not bore you any longer. I'll try to update this page when I think about it, but my lazy nature probably means that won't happen much.

Gasp! An update! Alas, I have as of December decided not to continue volunteering at the Carnivore  Preservation Trust or CPT for short.  If you want to know the gory details, e-mail me.  The internet isn't the place to air all that dirty laundry, but for those of you who know me personally you know that I don't abandon causes at a drop of a hat....only when there is good reason.

Who is that masked man???

The guy on the right is little ol me!

This is what I look like before going to one of NC State's basketball games. The guy on the left is Kevin Ring, the other SuperFan, not to mention the kind soul with the scanner :-)
