Reds 4 Cubs 3 (11innings)

It took 11 cold innings of baseball, but the Reds emerged victorious over the Cubs. Pokey Reeses single in the 11th inning gave the Reds a victory. Alex Ochoa drew a walk and stole second and Aaron Boone was intetionally walked. Mark Guthrie struck out Benito Santiago for the second out and was relieved by Mark Karcher. Karcher surrrenderd a sharp hit all to Reese that went off of third baseman Jeff Hudson's glove, which allowed Ochoa to score the winning run.

" The way he's been swinging the bat and putting the ball in play you would like to see him bat in that situation," Jack McKeon said. Dante Bichette and Aaron Boone both had solo homeruns in the game to keep it close. Ken Griffey Jr. had a single with an RBI in the game, but struck out the other three time he was up. Starting rookie Rob Bell started off rough, but retired the last 16 batters he faced. Bell gave up three runs, one earned, and three hits over seven innings and struck out nine while walking only two, which is a good sign for a struggling starting Reds pitching staff.
