Leon's Kite Pictures
Although I spend most of my time keeping the Doldrums Kite Club website up to date, I dedicate this site to pics of the kites in my kite bag and some other general kite pictures.
See also my superb non-kite pics!!

Kiting
in Herold's Bay
In November 1997 we went down to Herold's Bay, a village on the South
African Garden Route coast, where I flew for 2 weeks non-stop.
The bay is very small, but that didn't stop me from enjoying myself to
bits.
Doldrums Kite Club
Doldrums is our brand new kite club, getting together on a weekly basis all over Gauteng to try and take advantage of what little wind there is.
Holiday in Namibia
I went to Namibia to visit my folks in April 1998. We also went to Swakopmund and spent some time flying in the Namib desert.
Swindon kite festival May 1998
We had wonderful wind and a great crowd at Swindon, where I met quite a lot of my #kites buddies.
Making kites
I have made most of my kites (although I love buying kites too) and
it is a wonderful sense of achievement looking at a finished piece of art
(that's what a kite is, isn't it?) and putting it into the air. I
started off by making stuntkites, which is probably the wrong way around,
seeing that I have recently done a few very simple single-liners.
I have drawn extensively on:
-
Peter Peter's Kite Site
- probably the most complete kite site on the web
-
Stunt Kites II - a book written by 2 Dutch guys (Nop Velthuizen
and Servaas van der Horst)
-
Advice from fellow kiters - who been very helpful and most people
put lots of effort into solving my problems. I read rec.kites and
IRC chat on #kites.
