Joes Joltin' the trading wire
July 30, 1998
For immediate release
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- With
less than 36 hours to go to the trading deadline, the Joltin' Joes are
by far the busiest team in the league.
First, the Joes dealt starting
pitcher Bartolo Colon and first baseman Carlos Delgado to the Ground Squirrels
for slugging first baseman Tony Clark and outfielder Jim Edmonds. Less
than 10 minutes later, Joes GM Joe Clayton was sending first baseman Kevin
Young and pitcher Darren Dreifort to the Grave Dancers Union for third
baseman Robin Ventura and former Cy Young winner Pat Hentgen.
There was little movement
from first-place Golden Boys GM Mike Wagner, who two days ago engineered
a six-player deal (most notably sending Mo Vaughn for Barry Bonds) with
the Bucc-Os. He is not expected to rest on his laurels.
More as it develops.
