In 1987 WWE (then WWF) would start contacting the local promoters TV stations and Venues.   They would start paying the TV stations to air their program, thus making the local promoter pay for stations as well.    WWE would start contacting the local wrestling stars from each promotion and giving them twice what they were making for the local promoters.   In time Vince McMahon and the WWE did what they wanted to do and put the local promoters out of business.
