TRI-CITIES SPRING JAMOREE | |||||||||||
MAY 15-16 1999 | |||||||||||
Although we are still young and green behind the ears, we decide to venure out and explore the world of soccer outside our city of Yakima. We entered the Tri-Cities Spring Jamoree which normally features teams from around the Tri-Cities area but a couple of teams from Yakima entered as well. Our goal from the onset was to have fun for the kids and the parents and soccer was to be secondary (Coaches viewpoint only). We all got rooms at a local hotel near the soccer complex and stayed the night. With us and another local team, the Footloose, staying at the same hotel, it was fun for all the kids involved. The soccer aspect was a different story. We got placed in another age bracket so we were playing kids in the U-11 age bracket. I didn't think a year would be that much different but I was proven wrong. These older kids played a lot more aggressive, and had a pretty good sense of team passing. We got taken to the cleaners. BUT>>>>>>>>>>I never saw the Stingers play with as much heart and as much pride as I saw this weekend. They played hard and they NEVER gave up! I am so proud of this team! They played with the heart of a champion and in my book they are champions. We learned a lot about soccer that weekend that we would never have learned at any practice and I think these girls will benefit from it later down the road. All in all, we had fun. I felt sorry for any of the other hotel guests who wanted to use the pool because with 30 ten year old girls in the pool, it was a zoo. Hotels, pools, Chuck E Cheeses and soccer.................a good weekend! |
