This summer I got to go the the Fire Service Mini Camp(FSMC)in San Diego.  It was hosted by the San Diego Fire and Life Safety Services Department, and was held at the regional training facility, Camp Nimitz NTC.  The camp was specifically for girls ages 16-21 that wanted to become firefighters.  We got to put out fires in the fire simulator, spray hoses, couple and un couple hoses, climb arial ladders, rappel and much much more.  Among the many things we did were numerous pushups, but hey, everyone learned that you answer with YES MA'AM at the top of your lungs when asked to do something or if you understand.  We also learned to never ask why.  Everyone who helped facilitate the camp were volunteers, and they came from 7 different states in the West.  The Directors were all volunteers, and it is really cool to see that so many people in the fire departments that were represented care about the future of the fire department.

We also got a chance to do some pretty challanging things, from rescuing a ping pong ball through a 15 foot PVC pipe with holes in it that had to stay upright, to my favorite game, trust fall.  We came into the camp as individuals, and came out a team.  My favorite part was either the ladders that we got to climb, or the rappelling, in which somehow I ended up hanging by my ankle about 6 feet off the ground.  I don't know if I can get ahold of that picture, but I sure will try!!
