Bernd Schuster was born in Augsburg, in 1959. Since a child he was dreaming to be a football star and was playing for FC Augsburg since 16 to 18, when he got to play in national team under 18 for Germany.
A lot of different teams were interested to get him, but finally FC Köln got him in 1978, with 18 years old. Some months later he knew his wife and played his first match as a professional. He married very young, in 1979, with Gaby and some months later he was playing for the A german national team in European Cup of Nations in Italy, summer 1980. There were Rummenigge, Cullmann, Breitner, Briegel, ...a lot of stars but Europe was interested in Bernd, who was not happy in Köln because the new trainer. FC Barcelona got him in october 1980 and they won the Spanish Cup. Bernd was there 8 years playing in Nou Camp. He got a League, 3 cups, 1 European Cup winners Cup,...but he lost a lot of leagues and lost an incredible champions league match with Steaua Bucharest. Also he was injured in 1981, he was one year out of the squad during 1987,... the fans could enjoy one of the better players of Europe during 8 years but also there was difficult moments for everybody.

El FC Barcelona el va fitxar finalment a l'octubre de 1980 enmig d'una crisi i aviat van remuntar i acabaren l'any guanyant la Copa del Rei. Bernd va jugar al Nou Camp 8 anys. Aconseguí una Lliga, 3 Copes, 1 Recopa Europea,... però va perdre moltes lligues i una increïble final de la Copa d'Europa (actual Champions League) contra l' Steaua de Bucarest. Una greu lesió acabat d'arribar a Barcelona li va marcar una època, també va ser un any apartat del Barça per "indisciplina" el 1987,.. els afeccionats culers van gaudir d'un dels millors jugadors del món durant 8 anys però també hi van haver moments difícils.
He also got a Silver Baloon and 2 times Bronze Baloon.
At 23, he decided no to play any more for the nationalteam, even half Germany tried to convinced him some times during the rest of his life.
Bernd decided to play for Real Madrid and start again to get the Champions League and forget the problems. He played there 2 years and he got 2 leagues, one spanish cup and got the happy times he was looking for. But after 2 years the president of Real Madrid decided to change Bernd for another younger player and it was some rare problems during a summer tour in 1990.
Bernd left Real and some months later he went to Atletico Madrid. The team began to run and after 2 happy seasons he got 2 cups. But later some other problems with the president make Bernd decided to leave the club. The season finished very bad for Bernd (out of the team) and the club (without the right midfielders).
Bernd back to Germany to play in Bayer Leverkusen in 1993 where he couldn't get any important cup. His problems with the trainer took him to be out of team again 3 years later.
Trying to start again, long away from home, Bernd went to Mexico in Universidad UNAM where he played for some matches before returning to Germany to be Trainer in 1997.
But people will not remember his polemic caracter, or his indisciplinary times, his lost matches or his problems with trainers. Actually, fans remember they saw one of the best world players in the midfield ever, with magic passes of 40 m. They remember Bernd played young, powerful and cool games, or played with experience, intelligence and professionality for years. With an always perfect quality ball touch in his feet, he was a leader and an idol everywhere he went and he is a legend in the Spanish League History.
While he was studing for a trainer, Fortuna Cologne signs on him as the new trainer. The squad was not the best in the 2.League but he got one of the best table results in the history. But they didn't raise to Bundesliga. The next season Bernd is the trainer of FC Colònia, his former club in his early years, which was playing in 2-liga, too. Unfortunately he couldn't get the firsts places in table and the club remains in 2.liga, so Bernd leaves the team in summer 1999.
