The Bucs First Championship: A Dozen Days in January

photo The Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning Super Bowl XXXVII was the biggest thing to ever happen to this area. The Tampa Bay area had hosted Super Bowls, the Storm had won Arena league titles and Rowdies won a soccer championship, but nothing compared. Even outside the sports world, nothing could top the euphoria.

What made the victory even more special, was the fact the Bucs were once the laughingstock of the league. The team lost its first 26 games, which covered almost two full seasons. Fans and the team suffered through a twelve year period of double digit losing seasons. The Bucs highlights usually ended up on "NFL Follies."

Any future titles will never be as sweet as the first championship. There can never be another first time. In January 2003, the Buccaneers lit up the community. There were a dozen days like none before.
