Right wing Jaromir Jagr of the Pittsburgh Penguins received his second consecutive and third career Art Ross Trophy, presented "to the player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season." Jagr tallied 127 points (44 goals, 83 assists) in 81 games, his second-highest single-season point total in a nine-year NHL career. The Kladno, Czech Republic native made history in winning his first career Art Ross Trophy in 1995, becoming the first European-trained player to capture the award. Jagr joins a group of seven scoring greats to have won three or more Art Ross Trophies: Wayne Gretzky (10), Gordie Howe (six), Mario Lemieux (six), Phil Esposito (five), Stan Mikita (four), Bobby Hull (three) and Guy Lafleur (three).
Right Wing Jaromir Jagr was the first choice on 53 of the 56 ballots cast for 268 points, ahead of Teemu Selanne, who was the second choice on 50 of 56 ballots for 168 points. Jagr’s selection to the First Team is his fourth in the last five years, broken only by Selanne’s First Team selection in 1996-97.
