TRAVIS AVERILL

After seven years of college, I finally started my first job with the USDA-NASS. I started the job on July 12, 2004 in Concord, New Hampshire as a Statistician. I can say I do not regret not going on for further education. I feel at this time the USDA, that my Masters degree provides the ability to be successful. My job is going real well and slowly becoming more familiar with commodities in New England.
I completed my Masters of Science at The University of Georgia, in the Animal and Dairy Science Department on June 25, 2004. My time at UGA was an experience that I will probably never forget. Good and Bad times! My first year at UGA living with Rilee and Jen, I had two great roommates and friends.
I graduated in the spring of 2002 from Michigan State University, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Genetics. During my time at MSU, I made some great friends and great memories.
However, before I became a Spartan, I spent a year and a half at the University of Alabama majoring in
Electrical Engineering. I will admit my year and a half at Alabama, I had a great social life and my gpa showed that. During that time I made some great friends and memories that will last a life time. The spring semester of 1998 I pledged the co-ed engineering fraternity of
Theta Tau. I became an active member of the MU chapter after completing the semester long pledge period.
I am from the vacationland state of Maine. Some of you in the South consider me a Yankee and have also told me that I have an accent. For most of the childhood, I lived in Farmington, Maine. Farmington is a very small town located in Central Maine with a population around 14,000. I graduated from Mount Blue High School in 1997 out of a graduating class of 197 students. In High School I wrestled, played football, and was a member of the track & field team. I lettered in wrestling four times, twice in football, and once in track and field. I was also very active in 4-H for nine years.
Some people wonder why I went so far away from home to go to college or why I have gone the route I have chosen. The reason why I left Maine and went to Alabama was due to Alabama's engineering program strong national reputation. However, after a year and a half, I realized that I did not want to study Electrical Engineering anymore so I transferred to Michigan State to study Genetics. MSU Animal Science department also has a strong national reputation. The decision of transferring to State was made easier since my older brother was at MSU, in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Then I choose the University of Georgia due to the faculty and world known reputation that UGA had for Quantitative Genetics. After seven years away from New England, I have adventured back to the rural living. Hopefully, after two to four years in the New England office, I plan on transferring to another state office when I find the right fit.
This site has had numerous updates since being developed in the spring of 1998.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSIONAL SPORT TEAMS
HOBBIES
I like participating in sports and other outside activities. My favorite sports to watch are basketball and football. However, my favorite sport is folkstyle wrestling. Since moving back to New England, I have become a certified wrestling official for the state of New Hampshire. Since going to three different big universities, I do actually root for all three schools. However, to this day, the best sporting event that I have ever been to was the Alabama vs Auburn football game in 1998, where Alabama won. I will say that during my time at Michigan State that basketball games were fun and had the best basketball program out of the three schools by far. During the winter months, I like to ski. Over the last seven years I have only been able to ski, snowmobile, and ice fish when I was home on my Christmas break. Now being back in the Northeast, I can ski on a regular basis with my Atomic SX:7 skis. I also like to go biking and rollerblading when I have a chance. When I am not doing one of these fun activities, I like to hang out with my friends or travel.
