Favorite Bands

Poison

Poison is my favorite band. I like them because they have awesome rock and roll songs. I also like them because they are still alive today but they haven't gone to alternative, they still play rock in the style that they did in the 80s. Some of their albums are: Look what the Cat Dragged In, Open Up and Say Ahh, Flesh and Blood, Native Tongue, and Crack a Smile. Crack a Smile has just recently been released officially. Around 1993, CC Deville was kicked out of the band for several reasons, including drug addiction and personal conflicts. Richie Kotzen replaced him for the album Native Tongue. Then Richie was kicked out and replaced by Blues Saraceno for the Crack a Smile album. CC Deville re-joined the band and toured with them in 1999. In early 2000, CC left again and was replaced by LA Guns guitarist, Tracii Guns. However, the replacement wouldn't last for long. CC came back to the band a few weeks later.

Members:

Bret Michaels: Lead vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica
C.C. Deville: Guitar, backing vocals

Great White

Great White is another awesome band. Their lead singer, Jack Russell, has been arrested over 45 times. Their album "...Twice Shy," included the hit cover song "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." The Twice Shy album came out after Once Bitten. That can be confusing. Their newest album is called Can't Get There From Here. It includes the hit song Rolling Stoned.

Members:

Jack Russell: Lead vocals
Mark Kendall: Lead Guitar, backing vocals
Michael Lardie: Rhythm guitar, keyboard, backing vocals
Sean McNabb: Bass Guitar
Audie Desbrow: Drums

Guns n' Roses

Guns n' Roses is another awesome band. They broke up around 1993 unfortunately due to drug addictions mainly. Axl Rose, the lead singer, has had more than his share of problems with the law. Some of their albums include: Appetite for Destruction, Use your Illusion I, Use your Illusion II, and The Spaghetti Incident. They also now have a live album. My favorite song, Paradise City, is on my favorite album, Appetite for Destruction.

Members:

Axl Rose: lead vocals
Slash: lead guitar
Izzy Stradlin': rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Duff McKagan: bass guitar, backing vocals
Steven Adler: drums

Boston

I like Boston because they play hard rock but their songs still have a good melody. Not to say that other bands don't, but Boston shows more concern of having a good melody. Some of their albums include: Don't Look Back, Boston(self-titled), and Third Stage, which took over six years to complete. All three of these albums are awesome. Third Stage is my favorite album. Some of their best songs include: More Than A Feeling, Amanda, To Be A Man, and I Think I Like It. I believe Boston is still together but Tom Scholz is the only original member left in the band. The members below were the original lineup.

Members:

Tom Scholz: lead guitar
Brad Delp: lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Barry Goudreau: rhythm guitar
Fran Sheehan: bass guitar
Sib Hashian: drums

Motley Crue

Motley Crue is an awesome band. The original lineup is still together except for Tommy Lee, who recently quit the band. He was replaced with Randy Castillo, who used to be with Ozzy Osbourne. Some of their albums include: Shout at the Devil, Girls Girls Girls, and Motley Crue(self-titled). My favorite song is Looks that Kill from the Shout at the Devil album. In the early 90s, Vince Neil left the band. It is controversial as to wether he was kicked out or if he left. He was replaced by John Corabi for a short time before re-joining the band. Check out their live album because I might be on the cover. Their newest album is called New Tattoo.

Members:

Vince Neil: lead vocals
Mick Mars: guitar, backing vocals
Nikki Sixx: bass guitar, backing vocals
Tommy Lee: drums

Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin is an awesome band from the 70s. Some of their albums include: Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Grafitti. Some of their best songs include: Moby Dick, Kashmir, Dancing Days, Stairway to Heaven, and Misty Mountain Hop. They disbanded in 1980 because John Bonham died of alchohol abuse.

Members:

Robert Plant: lead vocals, harmonica
Jimmy Page: lead guitar, backing vocals
John-Paul Jones: bass guitar, backing vocals
John Bonham: drums

AC/DC

Angus Young and Malcolm Young are brothers. They are the only two original members of the band left. Originally, the lead singer was Bon Scott. He died in 1980 and was replaced by Brian Johnson. Some of their albums include: Let There Be Rock, Highway to Hell, Back in Black, and Ballbreaker. They have many awesome songs. Highway to Hell is on Highway to Hell, obviously. The Back in Black album includes hits Hell's Bells and You Shook Me All Night Long. Their much-anticipated new album is called Stiff Upper Lip and has been officially released.

Members:

Angus Young: lead guitar
Malcolm Young: rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Brian Johnson: lead vocals
Cliff Williams: bass guitar, backing vocals
Phil Rudd: drums

Van Halen

Van Halen is another awesome band. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen won guitarist of the year from some magazine several times. Eruption, from Van Halen's first album, is basically just a guitar solo that is awesome. Their first singer was David Lee Roth, but he was later kicked out of the band and replaced by Sammy Hagar. Sammy was then kicked out and David returned for a while before being kicked out again. Then Van Halen's lead singer was Gary Cherone, formerly of the band known as Extreme. I hear that he has now parted ways with the band. Sammy and David have both had successful solo careers after leaving Van Halen. Some of Van Halen's albums include: Van Halen I, Van Halen II, Diver Down, 1984, Women and Children First, and 5150. Some of their hits songs include: Jump, Panama, Runnin' with the Devil, Dance the Night Away, Unchained, and Dreams.

Members:

Eddie Van Halen: guitar, backing vocals
Michael Anthony: bass guitar, backing vocals
David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar: lead vocals
Alex Van Halen: drums

Scorpions

The Scorpions have been around since the 1970s. They are still going strong today. Some of their albums include: Love at First Sting, Blackout, Lonesome Crow, and Face the Heat. Some of their hit songs include: Rock you like a Hurricane, Wind of Change, No One Like You, and Big City Nights. Their most recent album is Eye to Eye. They went on tour in the summer of 1999 with Motley Crue and I fortunately had the oppurtunity to see them.

Members:

Klaus Meine: vocals
Rudolf Schenker: guitars
Mathias Jabs: guitars
Ralph Rieckermann: bass guitar
James Kottack: drums

Judas Priest

Judas Priest was an awesome band that started out in the 70s. They are still going strong today except that they have a different singer. "Ripper" Owens is the singer on the band's latest album, Jugulator. Some of the band's earlier albums include Stained Class, Sin After Sin, and British Steel. Some of their famous songs include Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, and You Got Another Thing Coming. They have influenced many rock and roll bands for years.

Members:

Rob Halford: vocals
K.K. Downing: guitars
Glenn Tipton: guitars
Ian Hill Bass: bass
Scott Travis: drums

Rush

Rush is an awesome band that was most famous in the 70s and 80s. Neil Peart is one of the greatest and most influential drummers ever. This band uses a lot of synthesizers but that just gives them a unique sound. Some of their albums include Fly By Night, Caress of Steel, A Farewell to Kings, and 2112. Some of their hit songs include Spirit of the Radio, Xanadu, and 2112 Overture.

Members:

Geddy Lee: bass guitar, vocals
Alex Lifeson: guitars
Neil Peart: drums

W.A.S.P.

W.A.S.P. is an awesome band that started out in the early 80s. They have had several drummers until finally sticking with Frankie Banali, who is also in the band known as Quiet Riot. W.A.S.P. is famous for their live performances. They do all sorts of crazy things like throw raw meat into the audience, tie up naked women, shoot fire and blood, as well as many other things. Blackie Lawless is the amazing singer of the band, who worked with Nikki Sixx (later to form Motley Crue) before forming W.A.S.P. Some of W.A.S.P.'s albums include: The Headless Children, The Crimson Idol, and Helldorado. Some of their hit songs include: The Headless Children, Wild Child, L.O.V.E. Machine, and Animal(Fuck like a Beast). My favorite album is The Headless Children. It includes a cover of the Who's hit song, The Real Me.

Members:

Blackie Lawless: Lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Chris Holmes: lead guitar
Johnny Rod: bass guitar, backing vocals
Frankie Banali: drums

Quiet Riot

Quiet Riot started out in the 70s. However, they did not become big until the early 80s. Their first guitarist was Randy Rhoades, who later became famous as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist. Unfortunately, Rhoades died in a tragic airplane accident while still with Ozzy. Some of Quiet Riot's albums include: Metal Health and Alive and Well. On Metal Health, they produce their biggest hit, a cover of Slade's Cum on Feel the Noize. Another hit on that album is Metal Health(Bang Your Head). It also contains the ballad Thunderbird, which was dedicated to the late Randy Rhoades.

Members:

Kevin DuBrow: lead vocals
Carlos Cavazo: lead guitar, backing vocals
Rudy Sarzo: bass guitar, backing vocals
Frankie Banali: drums, backing vocals

ZZ Top

ZZ Top is a blues-southern rock band that started in the late 60s. They are still together today. Some of their albums include: Afterburner, Recycler, and Tres Hombres. Some of their good songs include: 2000 Blues, Concrete and Steel, and Burger Man. To be honest with you, all their songs sound the same (but they are good songs!).

Members:

Billy Gibbons: guitar, vocals
Dusty Hill: bass guitar, vocals
Frank Beard: drums

Europe

Europe is a great band that was most famous during the 80s. They had tons of good songs. Some of their albums include: Europe(self-titled), The Final Countdown, and Prisoners in Paradise. Some of their hits include: The Final Countdown, Rock the Night, and Carrie. Unfortunately they aren't together anymore.

Members:

Joey Tempest: lead vocals
John Norum: guitar
John Leven: bass guitar
Mic Michaeli: keyboards
Ian Haugland: drums

Megadeth

Megadeth is an awesome band that started out in the 80s. Their singer and founder, Dave Mustaine, was in Metallica before being kicked out and starting Megadeth. Some of their albums include Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, Risk, Countdown to Extinction, and Rust in Peace. Some of their hit songs include Countdown to Extinction, Crush 'Em, Trust, and Hangar 18. They have had quite a few lineup changes but Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson have been there since the beginning.

Members:

Dave Mustaine: lead vocals, guitars
Marty Friedman: guitar, backing vocals
David Ellefson: bass guitar, backing vocals
Nick Menza: drums

Hanoi Rocks

Hanoi Rocks was an awesome band from the 80s. They are probably the best band to ever come from Finland. Some of their albums inlcude: Self-Destruction Blues, Hanoi Rocks(self-titled), and Saigon Shakes. Some of my favorite songs are: Cafe Avenue, Nothing New, and Kill City Kills. Unfortunately, their drummer, Razzle, died in a car wreck. Vince Neil, singer of Motley Crue, was driving the car when the accident happened. Vince escaped unharmed, but Razzle unfortunately didn't. After Razzle died, the band was not the same and broke up soon after. Hanoi Rocks never really had a chance to make it big because they weren't around for very long. However, their fans are still loyal to them.

Members:

Michael Monroe: lead vocals
Andy McCoy: guitar
Nasty Suicide: guitar
Sam Yaffa: bass guitar
Razzle: drums

Damn Yankees

Damn Yankees was sort of a "super-group" that existed in the late 80s-early 90s. They only released two albums, which were Damn Yankees (self-titled) and Don't Tread. Their biggest hit was the ballad High Enough, from the self-titled album. The band consisted of Tommy Shaw (formerly of Styx), Jack Blades (formerly of Night Ranger), Ted Nugent, and Michael Cartellone. They broke up around 1992 or 1993.

Members:

Tommy Shaw: vocals, rhythm guitar
Jack Blades: vocals, bass guitar
Ted Nugent: vocals, lead guitar
Michael Cartellone: drums

Dokken

Dokken had most of it's success in the 80s. They didn't have any really big hits but most all of their songs are pretty good. Don Dokken's amazing vocal abilities and George Lynch's excellent guitar playing matched each other perfectly to form this great band. Some of their albums include: Under Lock and Key, Erase the Slate, and Tooth and Nail. Don Dokken left the band at one point because of differences with guitarist George Lynch. Lynch accused Don of having more ballad than balls. Don later made a solo album called Up From the Ashes. It includes former Europe guitarist John Norum and former Accept bassist Peter Baltes. Don later came back to Dokken.

Members:

Don Dokken: lead vocals
George Lynch: guitars
Jeff Pilson: bass guitar, backing vocals
Mick Brown: drums, backing vocals

Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is another band that had most of its success in the 80s. Some of their albums include: New Jersey, Slippery When Wet, and These Days. Jon Bon Jovi also had a successful solo career. Bon Jovi's newest album is called Crush. The first single from the album is It's My Life.

Members:

Jon Bon Jovi: lead vocals
Richie Sambora: guitars, backing vocals
David Bryan: keyboards, backing vocals
Alec John Such: bass guitar, backing vocals
Tico Torres: drums, backing vocals

Extreme

Extreme is another good band. Their songs had kind of a funky twist to them, which gave them a unique sound. Some of their albums include: Extreme (self-titled), Pornografitti, and 3 Sides To Every Story. A lot of their albums and songs had funny names like Get the Funk Out, Pornografitti, and He-Man Woman Hater. Nuno Bettencourt was probably the most musically talented member of the band. After leaving Extreme, Gary Cherone was a member of Van Halen for a while before leaving.

Members:

Gary Cherone: lead vocals
Nuno Bettencourt: guitars, keyboards, backing vocals
Pat Badger: bass guitar, backing vocals
Paul Geary: drums

Aerosmith

Aerosmith has been going strong for many years. They are one of the most respected and influential bands in history. Some of their hit songs include: Rag Doll, Janie's Got A Gun, Cryin', Angel, and Don't Want To Miss A Thing. In the 80s, they broke the boundaries between rap and rock when they played Walk This Way with Run DMC. Steven Tyler's daughter is the actress Liv Tyler.

Members:

Steven Tyler: lead vocals, keyboards
Joe Perry: guitars, backing vocals
Brad Whitford: guitars
Tom Hamilton: bass guitar
Joey Kramer: drums

White Lion

White Lion was an awesome band from the 80s. Unfortunately, I don't think they are together anymore. Former lead singer Mike Tramp now has a solo career. Some of their albums include: Pride, Big Game, and Mane Attraction. Some of my favorite songs include: Wait, Radar Love, Broken Heart, and All You Need Is Rock n' Roll.

Members:

Mike Tramp: vocals
Vito Bratta: guitars
James Lomenzo: bass guitar
Greg D'Angelo: drums

The Doors

The Doors are an awesome old school band. They were one of the most controversial bands in history. They would mostly just improvise all of their songs on stage, but they did have some hit songs. Sometimes when the crowd screamed for them to play Light My Fire, they would play something else like the Lizard King. Some of their songs were almost like poems or stories. Unfortunately, Jim Morrison died, and the band disbanded soon after. His cause of death is uncertain, and some people think he may still be alive. Some of their albums include: The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, L.A. Woman, Strange Days, and Waiting For the Sun. Some of their hit songs include: Light My Fire, People Are Strange, Break On Through, and Riders on the Storm. There is a documentary about them that is pretty good. It is appropriately titled, "The Doors."

Members:

Jim Morrison: vocals
Bobby Krieger: guitar
Ray Manzarek: keyboards
John Densmore: drums

Def Leppard

Def Leppard started in the late 70s. They found most of their success during the 80s, but are still going strong today. Their first two albums were On Through the Night and High n' Dry. Then they fired their guitarist, Pete Willis. Many people believe that Def Leppard was never the same after firing him. He was replaced by Phil Collen. Later drummer Rick Allen would lose his arm in a car accident. His return was questionable, but he finally came back and played with his one good arm. To make up for his lost arm, he played some electronic pedals with his foot. He still plays with the band to this day with just one arm. However, the tragedies were not yet over for the band. Guitarist Steve Clark died of a drug overdose during the recording of the Adrenalize album. The band decided to finish the album as a four-piece band, and Phil Collen would play both his and Steve's guitar parts. The band then hired former Whitesnake guitarist Vivian Campbell. The band would experiment with the 1995 album, Slang. In 1999, they returned to their old sound with the Euphoria album. Some of Def Leppard's hit songs include: Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It, Bringin' On The Heartbreak, and Rock of Ages.

Members:

Joe Elliot: lead vocals
Steve Clark: guitars, backing vocals
Phil Collen: guitars, backing vocals
Rick Savage: bass guitar, backing vocals
Rick Allen: drums

Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister was an awesome band that was most famous in the 80s. Some of their albums include: Under the Blade, Stay Hungry, and Come Out and Play. Some of their hit songs were We're Not Gonna Take It, I Wanna Rock, and The Price. Lead singer Dee Snider has recently ventured into the movie industry. You can see him in the horror movie, Strangeland. He might also be in some other movies, but I don't know of them.

Members:

Dee Snider: lead vocals
Eddie "Fingers" Odjeda: guitars, backing vocals
Jay Jay French: guitars, backing vocals
Mark "The Animal" Mendoza: bass guitar, backing vocals
A.J. Pero: drums, backing vocals

Motorhead

Motorhead is a legendary rock and roll band that started in the 70s. They have influenced many hard rock bands over the course of their career and continually put out good songs and albums. Some of their albums include Rock N'Roll, 1916, and We Are Motorhead. Some of my favorite songs include: Ace of Spades, See Me Burning, We Are Motorhead, and the ballad One More Fucking Time (strange name for a ballad). Motorhead is one of the few bands that has been able to keep the same sound for their entire career. They have had quite a few line-up changes over the years, but Lemmy has always been there. He is the leader and founding father of the band. Their latest drummer, Mikkey Dee, has played drums with King Diamond and Don Dokken prior to joining Motorhead. Motorhead has been a 3-piece band for almost their whole career. For a short time, they were a 4-piece band, but they quickly went back to being a 3-piece band.

Members:

Lemmy Kilmister: lead vocals, bass guitar
Philip Campbell: guitars, backing vocals
Mikkey Dee: drums

The Unband

The Unband is new, but they play 80s style rock. They have had success with their debut album, Retarder, and a spot on the Scary Movie soundtrack. In addition, they have opened for major bands such as Dio, Motorhead, Dokken, Great White, Anthrax, Def Leppard, and Jackyl.
