Sept 26/27 weekend

ALL POSITIONS IN THE LEAGUE ARE DECIDED (the last remaining match will have no bearing on the standings), Some Records are set

The Final Standings are as follows:
1) BCC
2) MSCC
3) PCC
4) SCC
5) IPCC
6) WSUCC
7) MCC

Hats off to BCC for a convincing and well deserved championship for this year. BCC has proved to be a very consistent cricketing team in the League: they managed to be among the top three positions all this time, and were always threatening to win the championship, which they did finally.

MSCC, the last year's champions, yet once again proved to be probably the best batting side, with the best run rate. Time and time again they proved that they can win any match as long as their batting clicks. Their bowling lacks depth right now.

PCC, the 1996 champions, proved that they are still a force to reckon with, and if mother nature had been kinder to them this year (without those two rain-outs), they would have been up there as well. But, still they beat every team in the League in the end (except Indo-Pak), and showed their depth in both batting and bowling. PCC needs to improve their feilding and running between the wickets.

SCC has been the most unperdictable team in the League, probably because of the priority given to the BCMCL instead. As a result, the team that is feilded in the NWCL, from match to match, is not consistent. They may beat a very strong team in one match, and then get beaten by the weakest team in the very next match: case in point, SCC VS MCC. Unless SCC starts taking NWCL more seriously, this will continue.

IPCC was a welcome addition to the League, and they proved they can play ball, by scaring the best teams in the League. They beat PCC in their first ever League match, and came very close to beating both BCC and MSCC. This team also lacks consistency.

WSUCC was a completely different team from last three years. But all praise to WSU for making extraordinary efforts, given the tight schedule with their studies, to play ALL the matches. This is somethig to consider for teams who have forfeited their ONLY trip to Pullman, while WSU came here EVERYTIME: shows which teams are serious about the League.

While all the teams have moved around in the standings over the years, MCC seems to be a permanent fixture in the last spot in all the three years they played in the league, despite some heroic wins against some depleted sides. However, MCC has shown some improvement: the first year they could not win a SINGLE match, the second year (on rejoining the League) they won two, and this year they won two with a better margin. The batting and bowling order seems to be set quite randomly, and feilding is probably the worst in the League (9 dropped catches in one match this season).

UCC makes it presence felt by playing in the "Northwest Sixes" this year, and being placed third, with their batsman Faizan winning the "Best Batsman of the tournament" honors.

ICC is still alive!! ICC (part of Portland Cricket Association, along with PCC) won this year's "Northwest Sixes" trophy, and may be rejoining the League next year.

PCC earns the dubious distinction of losing toss ALL the NINE times they played, with Captain Haroon Rashid losing a record 8 times, and Asim Sadiq (the current Captain) carrying on the tradition with losing one more time. Asim needs one more loss to make it a complete sweep.

Beaverton CC vs Indopak CC match summary
Sept 19/20 weekend

Three Positions are Decided, History Repeats itself (BCC are beaten again, David Botha does it again)

BCC are beaten yet once again this season. This time by SCC.

David Botha helps MCC win against WSUCC.

Three postions are decided

Regardless of how they fare in their remaining matches, the following three positions are decided.
BCC are first (the Champs)
WSUCC is 6th
MCC are last (7th)

Two teams are mathematically alive to clinch the second position: MSCC (the favorites), and PCC (a difficult target, and dependent on MSCC losing their last match, and PCC winning their last match against MCC).

The best IPCC can do now is the third position, if PCC lose their last match. If IPCC lose their last match, PCC is confirmed at least the 3rd position (win or lose their last match).

PCC can not go lower than 4th. IPCC can not go lower than 5th, regardless

SCC can not go lower than 5th. However, they will be 4th, if IPCC lose their last match.

Sept 12/13 weekend

TWO LONGEST WINNING AND LOSING STREAKS IN THE HISTORY OF NWCL ARE STOPPED, Three positions in the League are decided

It was a weekend that dented two record reputations. BCC, the most winningest team in NWCL, was beaten by PCC by 5 wickets (BCC's first loss this season). And SCC came to the rescue of MCC (who have recorded the longest losing streak in the history of NWCL.

However, both these results came too late to make any difference in the league standings. BCC went in this weekend confirmed as the Champs already, and MCC was confirmed the last berth regardless of even if they won ALL of their remaining three matches.

Beaverton CC lost to Portland CC by 5 wickets at Five Oaks School in Beaverton

Beaverton scored 186 all out in 37.3 overs. Jagan Yeccaluri scored 52 in 35 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Skipper Ranga Iyengar scored 23, Aamir Mohammed 21 and newcomer KK Neelakantan 19. Shafique Chohan took 3 wickets for 23 runs and Roy Gibson 3 wickets for 46 runs.

Portland CC replied with 187 for 5 in 33.5 overs. Sameer Kadam scored 58, Roy Gibson 45 and Sajjad Rasheed 18 not out. Jagan Yeccaluri took 3 wickets for 36 runs.

The three worst Beaverton defeats in terms of margin have now been suffered at the hands of Portland.

Multnomah CC beat Seattle CC by 6 wickets at Fort Dent Park in Tukwila

Seattle scored 236. Multnomah replied with 239 for 4, being 34 for 2 after 16 overs at one stage.

David Botha scored a NWCL record 114 runs. David put on a record 3rd wicket partnership of 186 runs with Khan Bareck. This is the highest record for any partnership in the NWCL, supplanting the 140 runs for the same wicket between Jhalia Vijeratne and Irfan Haq (Portland vs Beaverton) in 1996.

Multnomah CC's first victory this season. 2 of Multnomah's 4 wins in the NWCL are vs Seattle.

September 5th, 1998

Beaverton wins the 1998 NWCL Championship!

MSCC kill their own chances of winning the League, and Oregon Teams rule in the first "NORTHWEST SIXES" six-a-side Tournament
MSCC concede to SCC, thereby giving up their chance of winning the League. As a result, BCC's 18 points become unbeatable, and BCC wins the 1998 NWCL League.

International Cricket Club, led by Shafiq Chauhan, wins the first "Northwest Sixes" six-a-side cricket tournament. Beaverton CC are the runners-up.

United CC were placed third.

Faizan from United CC was named the best batsman, and Aslam from Portland CC was declared the best bowler, being the most economical of bowlers (6.33 per over). Jhaliya, playing for ICC, hit the most sixes in the tournament, with Faizan just one behind.
Jhaliya also hit 52 n.o. in the total score of 74 against a match against UCC.

This first ever tournament, which is planned to be an annual event every saturday of Labor Day weekend, was a big success. This was possible with the help of Shafiq and Raiyo, and BCC.

Karanjeet Samra of India Oven did a super job with supplying excellent food for the event, and on time. We recommend that players coming to Portland try India Oven's excellent food.
