Personal Info:
Teppo was born on July 3, 1968, in Tampere, Finland. His parents were both athletes. His father Kalevi is a well-known hockey player and coach in Finland, and his mother Pirkko was a speed skater. He has an older sister Kirsi, and a younger borther Teemu who plays in the East Coast Hockey League. Teppo married his longtime significant other, Ann-Maarit, over last summer. This probably broke a lot of hearts, since he was apparently voted the sexiest male athlete in Finland last year (I would love to find out more about this!).
News:
4/25 The Coyotes win without Teppo! So that's why they gave up 4 goals. Fortunately they scored 7 goals to blow past the Red Wings in Detroit. On to the Whiteout at home!
4/22 The Coyotes lose a bummer game to the Red Wings 6-3. And worse yet, Teppo got hurt in the first period and sat out the rest of the game! He has a groin strain and is supposed to return for the next game on Friday 4/24. Hope I didn't jinx him by talking about his injury-free streak! Well, it's a seven-game series - on to the next game.
The Coyotes make the Stanley Cup Playoffs! The only Coyote who played in every game this year was - you guessed it - Teppo Numminen. He hasn't missed a game since December 1995. His hard work was essential to the injury-riddled Coyotes.
The Finnish Olympic hockey team won the bronze medal in Nagano. Teppo came in second only to his defensive partner Janne Niinimaa in scoring.
