The A. J. Luck House
The Wilson Jusick Home
A short history and other views

We were told that Luck sold the house to "a British Industrialist" who retained the house but did not live in it. He, in turn, sold in 1972. Interesting research to be done here. The Farnsworth house was bought in 1972 by Lord Peter Palumbo, sometimes described as an British Industrialist. Hmmm. Anyway, the new owner also did not live in the house, but stayed there when he was in town. Eventually, the 1980s brought a software developer as the owner. He rented the house to his sister, but he also never lived in it. It was bought in the early 1990's by Tom and Joyce Brand, who did actually live in it and spend much energy and money bringing the somewhat neglected house to its present state. We thank all the owners for retaining the house and the Brands for their love of the house and their energies to restore it. Yes, we have a list of things to further restore it to its original state.

As an interesting note, the living room is actually a 2 level room, with a deep "play area" in front of the fireplace. The upper floor is stained concrete and the sunken area is tile, like in the rest of the house. We guess area was a play area as the original blueprints have hand-drawn boxes of different sized resembling multi-sized play cushions. A platform was added at some point prior to 1992 to make the floor level, with original recess seen only directly in front of the fireplace.

Front courtyard, such a great illustration of the love of geometry and intersecting planes
that was the foundation of Mid Century Modern design. Full height sliding glass door again. Wow.

This is amazing, because you are standing in the courtyard and the house it right there.

Composite photo of kitchen. The original kitchen had the cooktop and a large exhaust hood where the window is currently. The window was added when the kitchen was updated in the 1990s. The cabinets along the back wall are as original but appliance area and entry to kitchen layout is much like on the blueprints, even tho it was not originally built that way.

Such a calming sight.
