I'm and avid Hotline user, and I prefer it over the internet. No where else can you download files faster and easier. It is the ideal source for downloads since it is text only. Hotline is one of the original downloading utilities. It was way before Napster and Scour. However since those have shut down, we have seen new Gnutella clients such as Bearshare, Mactella, and Limewire. FTP's of course still exist as well does Carrucho, the Hotline split off. However, I hope that all hotline users go back to the spirit of hotline. This means no leeching, no spamming (bots), no double logs and double downloads, and finally contributing uploads. *Note: Mac users, use Hotline Client 1.8.5 or later. If you do not use at least version 1.8.4 you will not be able to read the news.
