The conference was made up of schools from three counties: Cleveland County (Crest), Gaston County (East Gaston) and Mecklenburg County (Harding, North Mecklenburg, Olympic, West Charlotte, West Mecklenburg). The Tri-County Championships were run at McAlpine Park in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989, and at Olympic in 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1992. After the conference disbanded, East Gaston, Harding, North Mecklenburg, Olympic and West Mecklenburg went into the new MEGA 7 4A, West Charlotte moved to the Southwestern 4A and Crest joined the Northwestern 4A.

The championships were held at Olympic each year. The conference consisted of teams from Mecklenburg County (Harding, North Mecklenburg, Olympic, West Mecklenburg) and Gaston County (Ashbrook, East Gaston, Hunter Huss). Harding moved to 3A after the 1996-1997 school year. A new Mecklenburg County school, Vance, became a member at the beginning of the 1997 season. The 1998 meet was run on a slightly adjusted course because of construction at Olympic. The conference disbanded after the 2000-2001 school year, with Gaston County schools moving to 3A and Olympic moving to the Southwestern 4A.

The first four championships were held at Reedy Creek Park. The conference consisted of teams from Mecklenburg County (Harding, Hopewell, Independence, North Mecklenburg, Vance, West Charlotte, West Mecklenburg) and Cabarrus County (Central Cabarrus). Hopewell, a new Mecklenburg County school which opened in 2001, became a member in the conference's first year.
