1984-85: Going into the season with
high expectations and new coach
Jimmy Johnson, Miami got
off to successive dramatic victories over pre-season #1 Auburn and
nationally ranked Florida (pictured right). In the
Florida
game, Miami scored 2 touchdowns in the last 20 seconds of the game to
win in miraculous style. However, the pressure of the schedule and
national ranking took its toll on the Canes and Miami ended up losing
5 games during the year. Included in these were the loss of a 31-0
halftime lead to Maryland, a hail mary loss to Doug Flutie of Boston
College and in the Fiesta Bowl, a disappointing 39-37 loss to UCLA.
Miami's defense had a horendous year, but quarterback Bernie Kosar was
magnificent once
again.
