Josh Allen (6-3, 265, 4.9) OL, TL Hanna HS
(Fork Union Military Academy), Anderson, SC
Played every snap at center this past season for Fork
Union. Graded out excellent at his position. Benches 325 pounds and
squats 425 pounds. Chose ASU over offers from The Citadel and Elon. Was
also actively recruited early by South Carolina, but did not receive an
offer from USC. According to a FUMA assistant coach, "He’s a
helluva player…Appalachian’s gonna love him."
Jerry Beard (5-10, 190, 4.5) RB, Georgia
Military College, Lincolnton GA
Was a teammate with current ASU player Troy Albea at
Lincolnton HS and at Georgia Military. Rushed for over 600 yards this
season averaging over eight yards per carry and scoring eight TDs. Was
GMC’s second leading rusher this past season behind Georgia signee
Demetric Moore. Had three games with over 100 yards rushing. Helped lead
his Lincoln Co. HS team to a 13-1 record and to the Class A state
semifinal game as a senior. Named to the Augusta Chronicle’s
Georgia All Area Team as a senior.
Marco
Bryant (6-2, 190) DB, 4.58, Transfer from UNC, Morganton, NC
A Prep Star All American as a high
school senior at Freedom HS. Named one of NC's top 25 players by
the Charlotte Observer as a senior. Played DB at Freedom
HS leading his team to a 9-4 record as a senior and to the second round
of the NC state high school playoffs. Made 38 primary tackles and
had 43 assists and seven tackles for losses and two quarterback sacks as
a senior. Made 166 tackls and nine sacks over his last two years
in high school. An All Northwest 4-A selection as a junior and
senior. Will have two years of eligibility at ASU.
Rydell Cowan (5-10, 175, 4.5) DB, South
Iredell HS, Statesville, NC
A two-time All Western Foothills 3-A selection at DB
for South Iredell HS. Was considered a Div. I-A prospect by North
Carolina Prep Football News entering the 1999 season.
Sterling Hayward
(6-1, 185) WR/DB, Stratford HS, Goose Creek, SC
Helped lead Stratford HS to the SC Class AAAA
state championship. Great athletic ability. Fast and strong.
Excellent hands at WR; excellent cover man on defense. Named to
South Carolina Prep Football's (SCPF) Class AAAA All State Team.
Had 53 catches for 853 yards and seven TDs. SCPF says Heyward
"may be the most unsung player in the state." Made
official visits to ASU, ETSU, and USC and was reportedly pursued hard by
the Gamecocks.
Jonathan
Lyles (6-1, 170) WR/DB, Camden HS, Camden SC
Goes by the nickname "Tiger". A three year
starting cornerback at Camden HS whe helped lead his team to a 10-2 mark
this past season. Had 22 solo stops and a team high four
interceptions. Also played wide receiver and scored three TDs in
1999, his first season playing wide out on a limited basis. An All
Region 4-AAA choice and Chronicle-Independent Coaches All Area team
selection the past two seasons. A starter on the Camden HS
basketball and track teams. Lyles is the first cousin of former
Camden HS Parade All American and current Chicago Bear WR Bobby Engram.
Recruited to ASU by former Camden HS grad and current ASU assistant
coach Shawn Elliott.

Georgia College, Cochran, GA
Originally signed with Mississippi State out of high
school. Chose ASU after visits to both LSU and Houston. Also considered
Kansas and Iowa. On signing with ASU, Martin has been quoted as saying,
"I just like it better there. I liked the coaches there better and
it’s closer to home."
Samad Razzak (5-10, 200, 4.6) LB/RB/QB,
Glenn HS, Kernersville, NC
The younger brother of current ASU running back Karim
Razzak. A very strong and smart player. Has great leadership qualities
and has been a two year starter at Glenn HS. Named All Piedmont Triad
3-A in both his junior and senior seasons. A two-way player who ran the
option attack at QB on offense and played LB on defense. Projected as an
outside LB in college.
Rodell Simon (6-4, 300) OL, Georgia Military
College, Norcross, GA
A first team JUCO All American at Georgia Military
College. Also an All Region JUCO selection. Was recruited by Georgia
Tech, Tennessee, and Mississippi State as well as other major I-A
programs before sustaining a knee injury during a practice last Fall.
Simon chose ASU over offers from Marshall, Mississippi, MTSU, and
Arkansas State.
Bryant Smith (6-3, 250, 4.85) TE, Georgia
Military College, Nashville, GA
The only TE ASU actively recruited. Had 10 catches
for 135 yards and 1 TD this past season. According to a Georgia Military
coach, GMC employs a three wideout set, resulting in few touches for the
TE.
Andrew Stamey (6-3, 210, 4.82) QB, Erwin HS,
Asheville, NC
A highly touted QB out of Asheville. Played his
junior season at Pisgah HS in Canton, NC before transferring to
Asheville’s Erwin HS his senior year. Named All Conference, All
Western North Carolina, Who’s Who, and received national recognition
from National Gridiron and SuperPrep magazines. Ranked
by North Carolina Prep Football News as the #4 QB prospect in
North Carolina. Completed 100 of 190 passes for 1,740 yards and 18 TDs
his senior season. Very intelligent. Carries a 4.2 GPA and has scored
1,180 on his SAT. Has also lettered in baseball and basketball as a
prep.
Reco Washington (6-2, 185, 4.4) DB, Georgia
Military College, Lithia Springs, GA
Chose ASU over offers from MTSU and Chattanooga.
