The Beginnings Motown Cricket Club (MCC) was co-founded by a handful of people in the summer of 99'. They kicked things of with a bunch of friendly matches against local and nearby teams. It was an encouraging start to what has been a journey full of sheer joy and excitement for all involved. The following year MCC approached the season more aggressively and was able to participate in a healthy number of games. They took their first steps towards competitive cricket by registering for the Midwest Cricket Tournament, organized by Ohio State University. MCC was able to give a good account of themselves by playing closely fought matches and even made it to the next round. Later on in the season MCC co-hosted the first ever Great Lakes Champions Trophy and had a great run which was eventually ended by the more experienced Troy Cricket Club in the tournament final. What Followed In 2001 MCC hosted a meeting which laid the foundations for the Michigan Cricket Association (MichCA). That same year, the first MichCA season was inaugurated with a pool of 10 clubs. The idea was a success. MichCA has become a well known organization in the cricket circles of North America. MCC have been at the forefront of developmental work along with other clubs. They have been active participants in the MichCA league since its inception. Our club will be embarking on another journey in the 2003 season in a bid to continue their ever-improving playing record. MCC's biggest achievement has to be the major success of MichCA, which will be hosting as many as 20 clubs this year. |
