The islands in rad of Marseille are very numerous, and in fact, each of them is a diving site.
From the phenician or roman galley to the last war or begining's century cargo boat,
the indexed wrecks are numerous. Curiously there are not or very few wreck from the middle
period; excepted vestiges of "le grand saint Antoine" who brung the 1720 pest epidemy in
Marseille; I dived on it twice: first with Gerard in 1984 after reading the excellent
Patrick Mouton 's book: "Pest came from see", and second with Oliver in 1987.
I began to dive with Gérard TABUTO ( He was "the man next door" in my building plot in Allauch (see the ALLAUCH Page),
a very good fellow indeed), Since the year 1978, we had a lot of diving on the ilands: Maïre
("LIBAN" ship), around FRIOUL islands (pottery deposits) ;
RIOU island , JARRE & JARRON island ("Grand Saint Antoine" vestiges),
and PLANIER island ("DALTON" ship).
In 1985 Gérard moved to
PARIS for his job, and I dived with my 3 sons, particularly with Oliver.
Since the beginning I have never lift from the bottom that a very few number of pieces
(excepted the famous "Dalton quartz"; see below ... ), first because it's forbidden, and
also because it was not our aim, but what a lot of nices looks !!!
You can see under that some typicals diving.
La suite bientôt ...
