Both these great goalies played without masks. Jock Plante the great Montreal Canadien Goaltender was the
first to invent and wear a face mask. His first mask was molded to his face and didn't really protect him from puck impact.
It did prevent some cuts.

Manon Rheaume was the first women to play in a professional hockey game. She was responsible for breaking this professional
barrier when she accepted a tryout offer from Tampa Bay in 1992.
