Outlook for 2001:
The 2000 off-season is just beginning with the Astoria Pigeons sweeping the Arizona Dragons in the USBL Championship Series to win their third straight championship. And we all look toward to the 2001 season. With Matt Angeli now as the new Owner, General Manager and Executive for the Alaska Storm alot of changes will made. It is being predicted that the 2000-2001 off-season will be the busiest off-season in Alaska Storm history with the club looking to fill in some its weak holes. According to Angeli, the Storm have their eyes set on a 5th starter to replace long time starter Faud Adams who is looking to be shopped around. Other positions that the club is looking to solidfy is the 1st base position. The current 1B, Nolen Garcia who was traded to Alaska earlier in the 2000 season from the Birmingham Rebels in a nine-player deal, slumped while with the Storm and is also being looked at by other clubs.
Angeli had this to say about the changes the Storm need to make, "We need to fill in the holes that hurt us last year. Our 5th starting spot and 1st Base are our top priorities. We have improved every year we have existed and I dont plan on stopping that trend now. The Alaska Storm will be a force to be reckon with in the USBL very shortly."
With those strong words we will see who comes and goes through Alaska in the next few months. The 2001 season will be a very competitive one for the Storm if they make the right moves. The fans are all ready getting into the fever. More than 7,000 season tickets have been sold for the 2001 season since Matt Angeli has taken over the club. That doesn't include the 8,143 season tickets that have been sold already since the club was established in 1997. And Angeli says that those numbers will increase as they get closer to opening day. The Exxon Dome can hold 62,500 people and you can bet that the home of the Alaska Storm will be rocking for the 2001 season. Well, thats if they can keep a consistent winning pattern together.
