The Squire

The Squire wears a short coat with long sleeves. On his coat there is floral embroidery.

Embroidery was specifically forbidden for squires unless their income was over 200 pounds.

By chaucer emphasizing the embroidery, it shows that the Squire tries to attract women.

It not only makes him look handsome, but also makes him look wealthy because he can afford it.
