Darnell Mee's college carreer began at Western Kentucky in the 1989-90 season but he didn't play a single game that year and it wasn't untill 1990-91 that he first laced 'em up for the Toppers. Darnell didn't really step up his game untill the 1992-93 season, where he averaged 18.9 points per game and was named as an all American.
Mee is the all time leader at Western Kentucky for steals (209) at 2.3 per game and is third in blocks (110) at 1.2 per game.
Darnell is also one of the few Western Kentucky Toppers to have scored more than 1000 points.
"It's been five years now, but it seems like only yesterday that Darnell Mee was helping lead the Toppers on their great run that ended three points shy of the "elite eight" in the 1993 NCAA tourney. By the time he left Western, Mee had left his mark all throughout the Hilltopper record book. His 1,253 points puts him at 19th on the all-time scoring list; he ranks third, behind only Clarence Martin and Darius Hall, in career blocks with 110; his 259 career steals puts on top of that all-time category; and he also ranks fifth in career dunks with 51.
Prior to that brief stint with the Hornets last year Darnell had been playing for the Canberra Cannons, but currently he is a member of the Adelaide 36ers, a team that is presently in second place in the tough professional league of Australia. It's obvious by looking at Darnell's stats that he's one of the keys to the success of the '98 36ers thus far. He is also up to his old standards in other areas as he leads the team in four categories: assists - 3.8, steals - 2.6, blocks - 1.5, and minutes played at 38.18. In the team's most recent game Mee scored 14 and blocked 7 shots, one shy of the club's all-time record. Hopefully, one day in the near future Darnell will be given another chance at the NBA, but in the meantime it's good to know that he is succeeding and making a living at doing what he loves best." -
