Darnell Mee's first impressions
BOLOGNA - So, finally Darnell has practiced. We are talking about Darnell Mee, the new point guard signed by Kinder to replace Stombergas and who is going to play tomorrow in Pesaro. Here are his first statements as a Kinder player: "I am happy to be here, it is a great challenge for me as I finished my season and I am going to play in a higher level League. I think that I can compete and play well". Darnell arrived thursday morning, of course completely upside down as he had a 20 hours trip: "I stayed at home, I did not go to the game, I was tired. And I am tired today too; anyway, I think that with a couple of practices I am going to get better". Dasrnell speaks about his dealing with Kinder: "I was told by my coach in Adelaide that a new offer had come from Italy. He did not have any problem with me goin, and now I'm here to improve myself and to help the team. What time is it going to take to feel good in the team?. I don't know, but I saw great professionists and I want to stress that I am here to help them, even if they are the ones who make the real favour. This is a very talented team, very well coached. Today of course we tried some offenses, but I think that very soon my feeling will be ok. I play as a point guard, even if I have been playing as a shooting guard or as a small forward both in college and NBA. I am a good defender, but I think that good defense never comes from only one player. It must be a team defense. I am in good shape as I finished some days ago with the Australian team". Darnell shot in the last seasons with not so good field goals, but he had 7 boards per game, a quite amazing stat for a point guard: "that's an important part of the game when the small players rebound. It is important. For me, we were a very athletic team and we rebound always with 5 players". Darnell, who does not expect anything about the minutes he is going to play in Pesaro, played in Europe four years ago (France, Gravelines) and averaged 15 ppg with 3.3 apg. Anyway he does not seem to be amazed by the organisation: "First of all I want to say that European level has been improving, as the players are getting better and better. I have been travelling a lot, and I had lots of experiences and I am accustomed in introducing myself in a new reality. We play faster in Australia, but the technical level here is higher. I knew David Andersen before, and I know something about Danilovic. Pressure? I think that you have to take it apart from you, and you won't feel it. That's what I do, even if I was told of something heavy called derby here in this town". Darnell is going to step on court tonight: maybe five, ten, or fourty minutes. "It doesn't matter, as it doesn't matter for me whoscores or goes on newspapers". The player Ettore Messina wanted, as you can realize.
