...Life is a funny thing...

By Joelle

...just when you think you've had and you are so completely fed up with things...it treats you right!

Tonight the strangest thing happened: I was having dinner with my friends who live across the street from the hotel were the tennisplayers are staying in Rotterdam. We didn't go to see the match, unfortunately, but we listened to it on the radio, since my friends tv had broken down. I was getting extremely sad when I heard Patrick was losing the match, while my friend thought it was great Jan Siemerink was winning.

After Patrick lost his match, we went home, but while we were walking to my car,  it just hit me: he was coming back from the tournement soon!! We parked the car in front of the hotel and decided to wait for half an hour. 15 minutes had past when an official tournement car pulled up. My friend was absolutely positive nothing was going to happen and that I was out of my mind, when I jumped out of the car, because I saw him: there he was, my tennisgod, the man of my dreams: Patrick Rafter!!!:) I called his name and he turned around while I was walking up to him, he waved at me and entered the hotel lobby. I was standing in front of the door and asked him to please come out, he smiled and motioned at me to come in! So I did ( my friend was still in the car wondering where I was..).

I introduced myself, and he told me he liked my name!!! We talked about his match, he said he was really regreted losing and that he hadn't been feeling too well this past week, but that Siemerink was just the better man. We agreed he was going to beat him next time. He told me he was going up to his room to pack and leave for the airport. I paniced and asked him if he wanted to take a picture with me, he told me I didn't have my camera with me (oh I forgot about that...) I almost begged if he would wait two minutes to get my friend and my camera out of the car. He promised he would. I ran to the car and pulled my friend out, she didn't believe but followed me anyway, so she completely freaked when she saw I was telling the truth, he put his arm on my back (so sweet!!!) and posed!!! I AM IN LOVE with this man!!

You must be the biggest sport on the world if you agree on talking to a crazy girl like me, when you have just lost!! God bless him!!

I am sorry to see him leave, but it was the night of my dreams. I can't believe I drove all the wy home in a storm either after meeting Rafter!!!
