It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
What a rollercoaster ride Barcelona was! It will take weeks to sort out all the emotions and memories from this trip. They are priceless--it was worth 100 times the money I spent to go! The best part, truly, was meeting so many babblers (sorry Pat!). It was amazing to meet so many different people all joined together by our one passion for sweet Paddy!
I don't know how to describe it all to you, but here's some of my highlights:
1. Lleyton's win the first day!! He was simply awesome!! There really is on-ly onnnne Lleyton Hewitt!!!
2. Seeing Pat in the flesh--finally. Pinch me, I'm dreaming! I don't know how I even followed his match I was so busy analyzing every move he made. (Girls, he really is better than you have ever imagined--even with your very creative and overactive imaginations!)
3. Pat's injury was a stunning blow. I still haven't recovered from him approaching the net to default the match. He threw his racquet on his bag, pulled out his hair band, and walked out with this hands on his head, totally defeated. Unreal. No one has mentioned this yet: word was that the Spanish team members had said awful things to him during the match. We saw one time when he stopped and glared at them. I can't believe the actual players were that rude *spit spit*.
4. The doubles loss on Saturday was a total shocker. The crowd was absolutely horrible that day! The Aussie fans couldn't have been cuter cheering with our kangaroos in the air and still they booed every point, flipped us off, and heaven knows what they were saying to us in Spanish!!! But afterwards, they were begging us to take photos with our roos!!
5. I'll never forget standing and clapping (just politely, as we all were) after Spain won, with tears streaming down my face. I was so sad for 'our boys.'
6. Turns out that Pat is a rock star! Singing on the stage with everyone pawing for a piece of him. They partied hard for their fans that night and made it great--thanks boys!!! We love you!!
7. Brush with greatness: Okay, I didn't see the makeout session, but we were standing in the taxi line behind Pat and watched him try to sweet talk his way into a ride home with the policemen. Boy, he is a charmer..."could you take us home?" Oh girls, was he not darling?
8. Cute story I heard: When Wendy called Bee's mom at the hotel late sunday night (okay, it was 6 am) because of the taxi problems, they accidentally rang PAT's room and he answered!!!
9. btw, I've got the best (worst?) picture of Lara in her DC "outfit", for anyone who's evil enough to be interested--he he--I'll have to find a scanner for this one!!
10. Hi roomies: Jayne (heard you were on tv!), Fances (you party animal), and Joes (with the pictures to DIE FOR!!! the ultimate fan, you are!). Hi newest friends: Pat (we were separated at birth!), Erin (future Mrs. Peter Rafter--go girl!), Shirley (miss "three-kisses- I'm-Dutch!"), Marce (total party animal), Barb (coolest mom on the planet), Mel (you lucky duck--get those party pics up NOW!), Sylvia (hottest thing in the place!), Elina (flower girl), Ilana (I still can't pronounce or spell your name, but Hi ho Silver! wink wink), Robyn, you're the BEST!!!!!, and Jen and Sara, my little daughters (your patience will be rewarded!). And of course I met lots and lots of others, but I'm sure this must be the longest post EVER, so I better go!!! Love you all, Barcelona and stay-at-homes!
