Could go on a long time here...
Okay, it started as a kid collecting cards...baseball, football, basketball, hockey. Then I started playing on the block, at the park - choosing teams, playing the neighborhood teams in the streets of Salem, Massachusetts.
Insert the Boston teams...Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, Bruins. It seems funny, living in Texas most of my life and defending all of the above (to include the Minnesota Vikings - see below). These Cowboy fans down here can be downright obnoxious!!
Minnesota Vikings - how did a Boston kid end up liking the Vikings? Okay...like all my other adolescent friends, I bled Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins...but unlike most of my friends...the Boston Patriots just didn't do it for me. The New York Giants - now that was a winner! Went with them until the Vikings arrived on the scene...and Fran Tarkenton became my idol. The story is short from here, Vikings drafted him out of Georgia, Norm Van Brocklin didn't like his scrambling and traded him to the Giants...I was thrilled. But the Giants traded him back to the Vikings the very next year...hence my only switch in my life - GO VIKES!
The Red Sox. What can I say guys? I've been waiting all my life for a World Series Championship. Yeah, Bill Buckner...I know. Remember going on the subway with my friends and paying a buck to sit in the right field bleacher...straining to see Yaz, another of my idols. Try to get to "the ballpark in Arlington" once a year to see em'...
Maybe this is the year...
Celtics? Well...they're getting better. Will always remember the Russel, then Bird years...
