Well, we were soooo close this year!!! Anyways, I'm looking forward to next season when we have an even better team with excellent pitching!
November 18, 1997- So long Brian Anderson, Albie Lopez, and Herbert Perry. Good luck with the Diamondbacks and Devil Rays. These 3 players were selected in the Expansion Draft held on November 18, 1997. Brian Anderson was selected second overall, while Lopez was selected in the second round and Perry in the third. Now that the Indians have lost two young, possibly rising pitchers, GM John Hart better have some wild cards up his sleeve for some good pitchers.
December 1, 1997-
December 8, 1997- **WELCOME BACK KENNY LOFTON!!!* Kenny Lofton, along with Dwight Gooden (P), Ben McDonald (P), Steve Karsay (P), and Ron Villone (P), became the newest members of the Cleveland Indians today. GM John Hart closed a 3-year, 24 million dollar contract (with a club option for 2000) with Lofton. Hart then turned around and sent Marquis Grissom along with Jeff Juden to the Milwaukee Brewers for pitchers McDonald, Villone, and Mike Fetters. However, the wheeling and dealing was not done yet. Fetters was then sent to the Oakland Athletics for Steve Karsay and 1 million dollars. Then, to finish off the day, Hart signed free agent Dwight Gooden to a 2-year contract.
