First adapted from a Romanian board game in 1982, this version of table football
was refined and moulded into its present form by Mihai Nistor and his friends in Baia-Mare,
North-West Romania. Some 14 years later, Nistor brought the game over to England
and introduced it to Chris Chappell, who now runs the England & Wales Footballopta Federation (EWFF).
In April 1997, Chappell travelled to this town in Transylvania to take part in a tournament with his team
Bristol Rovers. Then in 1998, the first foreign tournament took place between
two players, Chris and his brother Mike, with six teams in Bristol.
We hope this
site will provide an accessible history to the game, which this year celebrates
22 years of play, as well as detailing present happenings both in Britain and
Romania.

December 2003
- Chris Chappell
retained the Chappell Cup by beating brother Mike 5-4 on aggregate.
On a new pitch in Bristol, Chris' Llandaff North Gas team carved out a big 4-1 lead in the first leg with two
goals in each half.
However, Mike's Black Arabs stormed back in the return but two second half goals from Junior
Agogo were not quite enough to cancel the deficit.
