**this riff provides the basis for much of the song.  The first two bars
  before the G chord are not really A chords, but I called it A for the sake
  of simplicity.  It is really an Esus4 figure with an A running throughout
  in the bass.  Harmonically, it functions as an A chord.  The Asus4 figure
  at the end is sometimes voiced as a Dsus4 played at the 9th fret.  This
  pattern is repeated throughout the verses, so the chords below refer to
  this riff.
  The original studio recording sounds a semitone (one fret) lower than you
  see written here.  This is easily achieved by tuning the guitar so that 
  each string sounds a semitone lower (often called Eb tuning).  On the
  Half-Alive album, the song is played a full tone (two frets) lower.  This
  can be done either by tuning the guitar a full tone lower, or by transposing
  the key from what you see here.
