Single ... the son of Wilma (a registered nurse) and Samuel McNabb (an electrical engineer), Donovan Jamal was born in Chicago, Illinois (11/25/76) and raised in the nearby suburb of Dolton, IL ... has one older brother, Sean ... graduated from Syracuse in Dec. 1998 with a degree in speech communications.
Was a backup guard on Syracuse's 1995-96 and 1996-97 basketball teams - the '95-96 unit fell to Kentucky in the NCAA championship game ... was an All-America selection and Chicago Defender News player of the year at Mount Carmel (IL) High, an all-male Catholic School on the southside of Chicago - was also a two-time all-area pick in basketball ... at Mt. Carmel, was a football teammate of Arizona Cardinals' DE Simeon Rice (2 yrs. McNabb's senior and the 3rd overall pick in the '97 NFL draft) and a basketball teammate of former University of Kentucky star and current Boston Celtics' forward Antoine Walker.
In 2000, McNabb began hosting "The Donovan McNabb Show." which airs on KYW-3 (CBS) at 11:00 am on Sunday during the season. The half-hour show is co-hosted by McNabb and KYW-3 sports director Beasley Reece, a former NFL player.
In 2000, he started the Donovan McNabb Foundation Scholarship for students who maintain a 2.5+ GPA at Mt. Carmel High School... scholarship winners are selected based on essays they submit about their own lives ... also donated a significant amount of money to the American Red Cross local disasters relief fund in Philadelphia in the wake of Hurricane Floyd in September, 1999 ... was selected by the NFL to serve on the "Life as a Rookie' panel for the 2000 rookie symposium ... played Pop Warner Football against Eagles LB Barry Gardner.
