* Ratings based on ability of bench to
fill in a position. More than one backup at a position would influence
the rating as would one player's ability to play multiple positions.
Jackson's ability to play both guard positions impacts ratings.
Ratings are artificially low for Sacramento as they have only
nine players signed.
Needs:
Probably the best starting five in the NBA. Health and depth are their
key issues. With a lot of money locked up in Miller, Webber and Bibby
with Peja needing an extension soon, their options are very limited.
This offseason could be critical -- will Petrie break up the core in
the quest for more depth?
Backup Small Forward
A strong defensive small forward who can help change the perception
of this 'soft' team would be a great addition. Finding one who can play
Sacramento ball is the tough part -- besides affording him, ofcourse.
They need to find a Najera / Bowen type somewhere
Backup Center/Power Forward
Finding Songaila really helped but so would the addition of a shot blocker
like Etan Thomas or Adonal Foyle.
Prediction: This team looks set to do
exactly what it did last year -- win a lot of games in the regular season
and lose in the second round of the playoffs. Petrie is bound to realize
that and may shake things up. If he can pick up the right players the
way the Wolves did last year (Hoiberg, Hassell), he may give this group
one more shot at it.
