WORLD CHAMPION CHICAGO BULLS PAGE What's up? I'm Michael Coleman of Chicago Illinois, a devoted Bulls fan. I have taken over what was formerly my brother Mark's Bulls Page, in dedication of the greatest NBA team in recent history, the 1997 NBA World Champion Chicago Bulls. ![]() The 1996-97 World Champion Chicago Bulls. In the period of transition while I am in the process of converting Mark's Bulls Page into Mike's Bulls Page, you will notice a good deal of dated material, such as old articles, links, etc. However, I hope to have the site up to speed by the beginning of the new season. So bear with me! One last thing. I currently do not have an email address posted, so right now you cannot submit your link to be added to this site. And speaking of email, please DO NOT send my brother Mark any email regarding the Bulls Page, since he no longer has anything to do with the site, and besides, he's way too busy to read it anyway. Okay, so keep checking back in, and I'll talk to ya later!
THE 1997 NBA FINALS Michael Jordan was certainly the greatest factor towards what has become the annual title victory of the Chicago Bulls. He nailed the game-winning shot in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and played well in all of the Bulls victories in the series. Indeed, after seeing Michael Jordan's performance in Game 5 of the Bulls-Jazz series, you'd think Mike could score a hundred points on his deathbed. That's hardly an exaggeration - his play was just that amazing. Despite playing with a flu-like virus in Game 5, Michael (with Scottie Pippen, left) poured out 38 points in the Delta Center and showed the world who the true MVP was in the NBA, sending the Bulls back to Chicago with a 3-2 series lead. Jordan could hardly stand before the game and threw up constantly, but even that was not enough to stop Superman. The Bulls took the title in Game 6, yet ironically it was not Michael who would seal the victory for Chicago. That honor went to reigning three-point champion Steve Kerr, who drained a beautiful three after an assist from Miracle Mike. But disregarding Kerr's shot, it was Jordan's 39 points in Game 7 which certainly made the difference for Chicago's home-court win for the title. Indeed, the road to the NBA Championship this year has been long and hard for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, but Chicago proved themselves as the true modern-day dynasty of the NBA with the team's fifth NBA title in seven years. And once again, they had the greatest player in the game to thank for it: Number 23. (Thanks to Aaron Cohen for sending the picture of Mike and Scottie from Game 5).
You know, one of my favorite Bulls players is the great Arkansas forward himself, Scottie Pippen. Good ol' number 33 has been putting up the numbers for years now, and is considered by many to be the greatest all-around player in the game. However, he is still in the shadow of the great one himself, number 23, and had few opportunities to grab all the attention he deserves. Pippen did emerge as a leader briefly when Jordan retired a few years ago, but unfortunately, he was a victim of bad PR (due mostly to a highly overpublicized playoff game) and could not quite hold on to the reigns of leading the Bulls. He did, however, lead the Jordanless Bulls through the entire 1993-94 season, as well as through most of the 94-95 season, before Jordan returned. In both seasons, the Bulls compiled season records over .500, and competed in the playoffs. But looking at him now, after relinquishing his leadership role to Jordan, you'd never think he was even remotely jealous of Mike. Indeed, Pip claims he's fine with his present role, but one must wonder how great Scottie would be now if he never played in Chicago. Just imagine, how good would Scottie be if he played for another team, say, Seattle? Could he have led a team to NBA titles on his own? It could have happened, you know.
Nevertheless, the magnificent player that is Scottie Pippen is
certainly
a sight to behold on the court. Yet, with Michael Jordan
certain to go down in history as the greatest Bulls legend
ever, we fans are left to wonder if number 33 will ever truly
get his due. I certainly speak for many when I say Scottie
Pippen is surely worth it. here's what you need:
