Dick and Margaret Trueman's Alaska Cruise -
May, 2004
Tuesday, May 18
Our first full day at sea. We spent the morning getting acquainted
with the ship. In the afternoon, we attended the digital camera
workshop, the first of five sessions. The workshop features experts
Sarah and Bradley Weber, who have given many such workshops on
various cruises. This was the first formal dinner night, and it was
fun to see everyone dressed up for the occasion. Incidentally, as a
matter of interest, each plate on the dinner table was surrrounded by
a total of 12 knives, forks and spoons! (During the course of the
meal the unneeded utensils were carefully removed.) In the evening,
we attended a very entertaining performance by the Celebrity Singers
and Dancers, entitled ".. and the Winner is."

After we arrived in Victoria, B.C., we went ashore, caught a bus
into the city, and spent an hour or so walking around. The gardens at
the Empress Hotel were spectacular, with large rhododendrons,
oriental poppies, roses, and other flowers and shrubs in bloom. We
were disappointed that we were unable to go into the Empress to see
their main lobby. The weather was beautiful - sunny and in the
mid-70's. We returned to our cabin after dinner, just in time to see
the wrap-up of the Kings/Timberwolves game, won by the T'wolves,
earning them the right to play the Lakers for the conference
title.
