| The Fayetteville Fury women's
ice hockey team began in the spring of 1997. The team has
had members from ages 18 to 39. We have had players that
played ice hockey as children in Canada, and players that
had never before seen an ice rink in their lives. The Fury practices primarily at the Cleland Multipurpose Sports Complex on Fort Bragg Army Post in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Though we practice on a military installation the team has both civilian and active duty military members. When not out on the ice the Fury women are educators, nurses, home makers, veterinary assistants, journalists, dental assistants, students, fire fighters, and emergency medical technicians. We are members of the South Eastern Women's Hockey League as well as the USA Hockey organization. We play recreational "non checking" games. The teams that share our league in North Carolina are The Raleigh Trailblazers, The Charlotte Ice Cats, and Greensboro's O'Charlie's Angels. We are looking forward to our third season in 1999-2000. Our coaches Jeff Newton and Pete Guevara share their excellent guidance and wealth of experience. With incredible enthusiam and determination, we hope to win the gold medal this season at the North Carolina State Games. ! |
