AAO News

August 8, 2000

In the past month, the following has happened at AAO.
Barry Gomoll resigned from the alliance, and joined NMA.
The Alliance Wars kicked off. AAO was in second place after week 1, took first after 2 weeks, and is now in third following a bye week.
Week 4 is coming on Saturday at home against leading UNIT. AAO has a great opportunity to take first with a strong showing, and with the fact NMA is facing a MORS group that can strongly over power them.
Week 1 vs MORS---2-1(7-2)
Week 2 @ NMA---1-2(3-6)
Week 3 BYE

Since the last NMW2 update, Eric Smith was the leader of the division with 2 of the 2 AAO Members with just 2 games lost. He has since lost 1 more. He is now leading the National West with a 10-0 record, and 27/30 games won. With 4 weeks left, Eric is 2 GAME wins from clinching a playoff spot, and 1 week win+8 game wins from clinching the division. The same goes for the National Conference's first seed, just change 8 game wins to 9.
When we left off, 2can led the race for second ahead of fellow AAO Member Poegough. Since then, Poegough took a short lived lead, but 2can is back in front, and looking to take command over PG. 2can is 7-3 with 22/30 games won, strongly leading Poegough's 6-4 and 16/30 games won.
With 4 weeks actually remaining, if the playoffs started today, this is what would happen:

Allison Wilson(American North Champ) vs.
Highlander(American South Runner-Up)

Eric Freda(American South Champ) vs.
TLK45(American North Runner-Up)

Dominik(National East Champ) vs.
2can(National West Runner-Up)

Eric Smith(National West Champ) vs.
Jason Young(National East Runner-Up)

There are still hopes from other people though.
In the American North, Allison Wilson has not clinched the division, but realistically, nobody else has a chance. Allison WILL be the American North Champ.
It is still anybody's game for the runner-up spot in the North, however. TLK45 leads Dan French by a mere 4 won games, and jamslam42 trails by just 1 match and 5 won games. Dan French should be the favorite, as he started half way through the contest and is taking charge since then.
In the American South, the Irish Ambassador is out of the playoff race. He will now play spoiler, and he should do a very good job at it. Realistically, though not mathematically, 1crooked Manager is going to remain playing spoiler as he has little chance. The race here is to see whether Eric Freda or Highlander will win, and which will be stuck with runner-up. That can't be predicted.
In the National East, nobody's out of the race. Richard Slavin, however, is out of the battle for first, but just 2 matches and 4 games from the runner-up spot. Nammsor, is also out of the battle for first, but is just 1 match and 1 game from the runner-up. Jason Young, the current runner-up, has forfeited the last 4 weeks. If he doesn't appear, Nammsor should be a shoe in for runner-up. Dominik, in all reality, has the division won.
In the National West, Benrules is out of the playoff hunt, and will hope to spoil others hopes at the race. Eric Smith, in all reality, has the division wrapped up, so the only race is between 2can and Poegough. 2can seemed to only fall back because of a forfeit to Poegough, and has since taken great charge, and is red hot. 2can looks like the AAO representative in the NMW2 Playoffs as a West runner-up.
And that's the news.

The biggest AAO events of the moment are the Wars. Let's get into them now.
In the Manager Wars I, Greg was upset by Marybeth 3-2. However, in the same South Conference, David defeated Mr. Strong 3-2. In the North, Barry got the nod against Ace 3-2.
David and Barry are now the AAO representatives for the MW Final 4 with 2 BEST reps. They're Don Yutuc and Marybeth. Barry had to face Don, and lost 4-1, but David defeated Marybeth 4-1. This set up for the next week's best of 1 for 3rd battle of Barry and Marybeth and the best of 3 with Don facing David.
Barry beat Marybeth 3-2 to take third place. Congratulations to Barry.
David dropped game 1 with Don the home team 3-2. David will be home in game 2 and will hope to pull even to go into the deciding game 3. Don would be the host for that game.

In the Newbie Manager Wars II, our two memebers are unfortunately in the same division. Right now, it looks like only one will move on to the NMWII Playoffs, with the leader after 5 of 14 weeks 2can(van Hulten). In the National West Division, Eric Smith is the overall leader at 5-0 with 13/15 games won. 2can is in second with a 4-1 record at 12/15 games won. PoeGough is in third with a 3-2 record and 7/15 games won. Unless Eric slips horribly, it'll be an either or type of battle. Good luck to both of them as anything can happen in the next 9 weeks.

And now for a major war. The latest to hit the circuit is the upcoming Giant Manager Contest. 10 weeks of a long drawn out battle to the finish where 4 will move on to the playoffs in hopes they will all be in the same league. 37 managers are in the contest. Of these 37, 6 are from AAO. All 6 AAO Members will battle to the finish. Could 4/6 be the final 4? Time will tell. How much time?
July 15 is the CT(Week 0), all the way down to Week 10 on September 23. Then Sepetember 30 will hold the semis, and OPctober 7 would hold the for 3rd and Championship battle. The Championship will probably just be 1 game since the odds would be getting slimmer of staying in the same leagues.
Good luck to all managers involved, especially AAO Members.

This was supposed to be the announcement article of PoeGough and 2can to AAO, but news flies.
AAO would like to officially welcome both PoeGough and 2can to Allied Against the Opposition in hopes that they are prepared for the struggles that lie ahead and so that they can help bring AAO up to the top.
In this update, I put up a TMitG List. A full top 30 managers for the first time since last May. We are very proud of our 4 eligible managers rankings on that list, and we recommend you go check it out.
AAO is also very proud of how well it is doing in the Manager Wars I.
We were very sorry to see Steve go so soon, but he was in a very tough division, and he will do better next time around.
We're glad to see Barry in the divisional finals against Ace with the results coming tomorrow. That's anybody's contest, and we feel that AAO may see a manager in the North Conference Finals.
In the South, I am up against Marybeth. I defeated her 4-1 last time when she was the home manager, and feel very confident this time around. It's somewhat unfortunate and good that the South's 1 seed is AAO counterpart, David. David is up against Mr. Strong. With the home floor, David should do very well and the two of us could assure AAO a spot in the MW Championship Series.
And now AAO is involved with the Newbie Manager Wars. PoeGough is disappointed with his week 1, 3-0 loss to Dominik, but 2can is thrilled with his huge 3-0 sweep of Nammsor.
2can leads the National West Division with Eric Smith, but PoeGough is last in that same division. There are still 13 weeks left. Good luck to both PoeGough and 2can!!!
That's all the publishable things that have happened to AAO in the past few months. Later all!

Before you read this one, you should probably read the March 4 entry below. Just warning you.
Well, things have been resolved between AAO and Bartolo, and he's back as a Charter Member.
Also, update schedules have been made!
Sunday will be the day for Manager Wars and everything updated today. Wednesday will be TMitG and TPitG list updates. Look for the first TMitG and TPitG lists of the new year on Wednesday!

It's been too long since this page has been updated, and it's sad that it has to be updated in this way.
Since the last update, AAO took third in the Alliance Wars, Voltec has gone back on a ship, he got some idiot to help him, whom then left, but has a new guy that's also named Matthew, to start! Hope he sticks around!
The news of the day is the departure of Barry Gomoll from the AAO.
He has decided to move into his own alliance which currently contains himslef and Danny Sage.
It was sad to say good bye to him, and we wish him luck.

AAO will be having more updates and more features in the coming weeks. I'm starting to discuss with Steve and David how we can make the page better. Maybe we can have previews, and things like that. Maybe you guys can suggest something! We'll also have TMitG and TPitG ballots between the 3 of us to select the Top 10 of each! Maybe even a "scientific" full TMitG list!
Time will tell!

We're also looking for more managers. We'd like to get 2-3 and if we get more then this number of applicants that meet our requirements to get in, we'll have to pick. Just email Greg to apply.

Until next time, we'll see you around!

Next week, member bios and TMitG will be updated. Also, there will be a new addition to the site. The addition will be Alliance Wars Previews just in time for the playoffs. The previews will be on ALL 18 GAMES!

AAO is not too displeased with a 2-1 win over TDP. We really could have used that extra win to tie BEST in the battle for the second seed, but oh well. It was mostly my(Greg) fault because I had to select the 2 players that lost for Steve.
Our wins were a sweep of forfeits for Greg over Sir Brandox, and a win for David over Eric LeBeau(20-18, 14-20, 20-8).
This week, we need a sweep over MORS to have a very good shot at the 2 seed, and even with a sweep(which would be a huge upset), we need another huge upset of TDP over BEST 2-1. There IS one more way AAO can get the 2 seed, and that's 2-1 AAO over MORS, and 3-0 sweep for TDP over BEST.
This week against MORS will be:
Greg vs Lachlan Strong.
Steve vs Mr Strong.
Bartolo Gonzalez vs The Devil.
This week's MVM goes to David, again, for his 2-1 victory over Eric LeBeau(20-18, 14-20, 20-8). Next week, he won't get the award unless all 3 of the rest of us lose. Finally, huh guys?
This week's MVP goes to Steve's John LeClair-- #10 for his 23-21 win over Brigitte 'Pom-Pom' French in a losig cause for Steve. It was a great overtime game for JC, and savored a little something for Steve.
Now, on to the deciding week of Alliance Wars for AAO and BEST, as to who gets home court in round 1 of the playoffs. Good luck to Barry in his first AW battle and good luck to me and Steve, who are looking for a rare win for the both of us.

November 27, 1999

AAO is very mad about the weekend's Alliance Wars bid. We dropped 2 sweeps, 1 by Greg to Don(20-16, 20-5, 20-10) and Steve to Ace(20-12, 20-14, 20-5). However, David pulled off a sweep on Eric Smith(20-6, 20-15, 20-9). AAO now needs big home games and some help from MORS this weekend. MORS just needs to win 2 of 3 and clinch a 1 seed in the playoffs going into the final meet of the regular season against AAO. AAO wants MORS to sweep BEST 3-0. We strongly believe that we can get a sweep on TDP at home to get a tie for 2nd going into a tough battle at home vs MORS where we'll need help from the weak TDP team against a pretty strong BEST squad.
The oncoming home games for AW is this:
Against TDP David will take on Sage or LeBeau. Whichever he chose, and will post his players on the 1on1 boards.
Myself and Steve will discuss(if I can get ICQ to start working) on who will take Ferblanc and Sir Brandox. Look for some Pros battles here.
Against MORS, Barry Gomoll will make his debut just before the playoffs begin. Currently, we're planning on Barry and The Devil.
Steve has a pick of his own, Marc or Mr Strong.
As for myself(Greg), I'm going to try to rematch Lach. I'm still deciding whether it will be 3 Pros, or a Dean and 2 Pros. I'm leaning towards the 3-Pro pack though.
Now, on to the MVM and MVP awards for the week.
My biased opinion is to give it to Dean Oliver because he gave the defending Rumble Champion a run for his money 20-16, making it 17-16 before Shai-Shai rallied, but, I can't be biased. MVP goes to David Expert for a 20-6 thrashing of Eric the Great.
And, obviously, MVM goes to David Expert's manager, David. David, I'll say it again, swept Eric Smith(20-6, 20-15, 20-9).
On to a fight for a 2 seed, and home court against BEST for round 1 of the playoffs, or else the horrible road trip!

November 20, 1999

AAO is not too displeased with today's performance in the Alliance Wars. Despite David and Greg getting swept, Steve defeated Marc 2-1 to give MORS their first loss on the season. AAO moved into 3rd, 2 games from 3rd and 5 out of the #1 position.
Really, not muchnews this week, and we look forward to this week's matchup at BEST ending AAO's 3 game road trip before closing the season with a 2 game home stand, before, most likely, hitting the road in at least round 1 of the playoffs. The final set will depend on if it's for 3 or for 1.
Now we give the MVM and MVP awards.
This week's MVM award goes to Steve Utych, for handing MORS their first loss to Marc 14-20, 20-17, 20-18.
MVP goes to Steve's ~*Certain Death*~. CD was the owner of the bigger of the upsets with his 20-17 win over #12 John Leslie in the All Stars.
And so we end, saying, let's take 3 from BEST at BEST!

November 13, 1999

AAO is very disappointed with the past 2 weeks of Alliance Wars. Despite having a 10-8 game record and an average winning distance of over 2 points AAO is 2-4 and dead last.
This week, again, David went 3-0 to become the only manager 6-0. Again, Steve and Greg dropped 2. However, this week Steve lost 2 tough ones by 2 and 4 compared to 7 and 14 a week ago. Greg lost by 4 and 11 last week to go to a 5 point loss, and the first 2 point overtime loss in the deciding game 22-20.
We are also sad to say that MORS is 6-0, and that is the team we have to travel to next weekend. The AAO goal is now to get out of the 3 way tie for dead last and gain the 2 seed. This is any team's best chance for a Championship if you want the slightest chance of knocking off MORS. Luckily, we have 12 more games to do so, but, on a negative note, the next 3 are, as I said, against MORS, then we close the year with MORS.
Now, we close out this news segment with the MVM and MVP awards.
AAO is proud to give the MVP award to ~*Certain Death*~. This, again, is Steve's player. Last week, Steve's Salsa(Fire) got the award. This week (Fire) lost by 2, though, and ~*Certain Death*~ thrashed Bernadette 'Oragina' French, 20-6 in another losing cause for Steve.
MVM goes to, for the second ever time, David. He won a sweep last week over MaryBeth, 20, 11, 20-16, 20-0 to get the award. This week he won 20-13, 20-11, 20-12 in another sweep over Eric LeBeau. That's 2 for 2 MVM awards for David. Next week, we hope it's a 3 way tie for the award with 3 wins over MORS!

AAO has now opened the AAO Official Home Page. The below is just what was written Saturday. The delay was due to trying to make up a Top 10 Managers in the Game List for the opening. I hope it was worth the wait!
