A welcome from the Director:

     Our YMCA is proud to meet the communities needs with programs and facilities to serve all ages.  The Y’s history in Danvers dates back to the 1940’s when some business leaders met and decided to establish a YMCA to offer youth activities.  Starting in a barn the Y quickly became a place for families to look for recreation.   In the 1950’s the Y purchased the Stiles Pond Day Camp property in Boxford to offer an outdoor summer camp program.  In the Early 60’s the Pool was built on Pickering Street, followed by the Program Center and Howard Lee Auditorium in the late 60’s.  Late in the 70’s a Cardio and Strength Training Center, Racquetball Courts and Adult Locker Areas were added leading to an expansion of a weight training facility, offices and waiting areas for parents.  In 2003 the Roy Anderson Gymnasium opened including renovations to the grounds and inside of the Y.  The Robert and Gordon Thomson Park opened shortly afterwards.  The Y’s Stiles Pond Camp Site in West Boxford is completing an extreme makeover, with a dedication set for May 30, 2009.

     The YMCA is a place for everyone, children, adults, active older adults and families.  Values are a large part of the Y’s program design.  As an organization meeting the communities needs, our Danvers YMCA is always changing.  Continually programs are evaluated and changed to better meet our members needs.  Our membership has grown to over Forty-Seven hundred members ranging in age from one to the high nineties, along with many others who enroll in programs without membership.  Our service area is Danvers, Boxford, Topsfield and Middleton; but members come to us from all over the state of Massachusetts and Southern Maine and New Hampshire.  We serve all regardless of their ability to pay and do not discriminate for any reason.  Everyone is welcome at our facility and that is what makes us truly a family, community YMCA.  With us it’s all about family.

     If you have not been to our facility, I encourage you to drop by and ask for a tour.  I guarantee you will be impressed with our staff and facility.  With over sixty staff members serving our members and program participants, our YMCA truly works hard to meet the mission of the YMCA of the USA, Building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

     Our professional staff management team is constantly working to add programs that will meet your needs. 

     If I sounds like I am proud of our Danvers Community YMCA it’s because I am.  Our staff work hard serving our members and it shows.
