DETROIT -- All Doug Brown does when he returns from a broken left foot is score.
Brown got a goal when he returned from a broken left foot Nov. 24 against the Blues. He aggravated the injury two games later and missed seven games before returning Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oilers.
He got two more goals in the Wings' 5-1 victory.
"It feels good, you always want to contribute," said Brown, who also scored on his first shot in each game. "That's a pretty good line I play with and they played awfully well."
Brown's linemates, Sergei Fedorov and Tomas Holmstrom, assisted on each goal Wednesday night. Brendan Shanahan and Pat Verbeek had a goal and an assist each, and Stacy Roest scored for the Wings, who have won six of seven and eight of 10.
"We're trying to stay consistent and eliminate the mistakes we made early in the season," said goalie Ken Wregget, who earned a victory in his first start since Dec. 4.
The Oilers spoiled Wregget's shutout bid -- it would have been his first with the Wings -- when Bill Guerin got his sixth goal of the season at 13:35 of the third period.
"I'm just going out there every game and playing the best I can," Wregget said. "The team's success is the important thing."
Wregget outplayed his counterpart, Bill Ranford, who looked like the player who lost games 3 and 4 against the Avalanche in the playoffs last season, and not like the goalie who played so well in the first two games of that series.
Ranford (1-4-3) allowed five goals on 30 shots.
