Comments: OFF-ICE SHOOTING - A MUST IN HOCKEY Because of the restricted ice time and the nature of the game, players spend very little time shooting on the ice. A player may take during a game 5 to 10 shots and during a practice 15 to 30 shots. With such small amount of shooting on the ice, even th best athletes have great difficulties in developing their shooting skills. To develop good shooting skills, hockey players need to practice shooting off the ice. Training products making off-ice shooting practical, effective and fun are now available on the market. Off-ice shooting is not something new. Most of the great shooters have used off-ice shooting. Today, off-ice shooting is less popular because players have no place to practice; there are very few sheds and barns or unfinished garages and basements. With off-ice shooting, players will develop faster into better shooters. Players will need to be monitored regularly on the ice by the coaches to make sure that they are using the proper shooting techniques and to correct any bad habits. To increase off-ice shooting practice in hockey, it is necessary that the hockey world acknowledge the great value of off-ice shooting practice and promotes its use to hockey players. We all know that hockey needs more offense and that players need to be more creative. Good shooting skills, which also brings on better passing skills, will certainly contribute to more offense and creativity in hockey.
