FREE AGENCY RULES
(Subject to change)
As of Feb. 18/99
The Free Agency issue has been decided upon .
- Each team must name a Franchise Player by WEEK 12. Franchise Players never become Free
Agents. If they are traded, the team must name a new Franchise Player, and the other team must make
sure that they rename their Franchise Player so that they don't have 2 of them.
- Each team, at season's end, gets to protect 3 of their free agents for that free agent draft only,
therefore the remaining free agents are available.
- Players with 4, 8 and 12 years experience become free agents at season's end.
- If you pick a player from your own team in the Free Agent draft, you do not need the compensatory
picks.
- 4-year players lost will be compensated with a 1st round pick from the other team
EXAMPLE:
Indianapolis loses QB Collins to Miami.....Miami has to give up their 1st rounder THIS season. If they
do not own their first rounder, they give up another 1st rounder THIS season, if they have one. If they
have NO 1st rounders, they cannot pick up Collins.
- 8-year players lost will be compensated with a 3rd round pick. Same idea as above.
- 12-year players are unrestricted, meaning the acquiring team gives up nothing.
- Each team cannot lose more than 3 players in any given year.
- The free agent draft will be held BEFORE the Ammy draft, and after retirements are announced.
- The free agent draft order will be identical to the Ammy draft order (i.e. worst record to first).
- Free agent picks CANNOT be traded under any circumstances.
