Casings are sometimes the difference between something working well, and something not working at all . Usually the problems that most people have are finding the right material, the right glue, and rolling it tightly. Hopefully after reading this you may have fewer of these problems The main thing I use these tubes for a rockets, but you could adapt these techniques to any kind of tube you are after. TO make these tubes you need a few materials. Firstly there is Wood glue/white glue and you also need some manilla folders/heavy paper or cardboard and a former to roll your tubes on. an easy way to make a former is to use a rod the same size as your rammer and evenly cover it in cellotape, this makes removal quite easy. It may also help if you put some newspaper underneath the tape to add a bit of bulk to it. You now need to cut your casing material to the right width that you want (I Usually make them about 20cm wide and 30cm long) and the right length. the trickiest part of the rolling of the tube is the start. What you have to do is place your former on the end where you wish to start rolling. As you roll it over for the first time you need to make sure that the material stays against the former and that the edges are nicely tucked in. It takes practice...lots of it. Once you have just made your first turn take your half rolled tube to a wide vice. Open up the vice a bit so the former sits snugly on top. This will help the tube be tighter. Now squirt some squirt some white glue along the seam where the tube meets the paper which you are rolling. Every time the glue runs out, apply more until your at the end. This is now your tube the way I stick the end flap down is to smother it with white glue, it becomes soggy and sticks to your tube quite well. Hope it worked out, if not just practice and if your really stuck |
