The post season of 1997,
Mariners vs. Orioles in Divisional
Game 1:
The Mariners lost the first game to the Orioles 9-3. It was a tough
game. Randy Johnson had a poor outing, and the bullpen also gave up a lot
of runs. Eight runs were given up in only 2 innings. Johnson continues his
problems with Mussina and the Orioles as the Mariners head to game 2...
Game 2:
The Mariners again lost 9-3 to the Baltimore Orioles. Moyer had to
leave early because of an elbow injury. Had Moyer stayed in, the Mariners
may have even won the game. He gave up three runs in five innings. The
Mariners had a 2-1 lead at the start of the game, but with the bullpen that
lead soon vanished. Ayala gave up a two run homer, and had 6 of the nine
earned runs. The crowd again booed him when he was on the field.
Game 3:
That game was the best game i ever watched. It was tense, exciting,
and nerve wracking for every minute but came out with a great ending.
Fassero was awesome. He made great pitches, and got himself out of all his
tough situations. Fassero also pitched 8+ shutout innings to give the
Mariners a 4-0 lead and give the struggling bullpen a 4 run cushion.
The ninth was tense when Slocumb gave up a two run hit, but he was able
to end the game by striking out Cal Ripken Jr. Ken Griffey Jr.'s dad
attended the game, and it was a great game to see. The hitting power
of the Mariners finally came through for them and they even hit back-to-back
homers in the eighth. A great game, and hope for the Mariners. Remember,
NEVER FORGET '95! : )
Game 4:
The game was close, and the pitching wasn't bad, but the Mariners
batting didn't pull through when they needed it, and it cost them a
chance at the series or post-season. But who can play them? Everyone played
a great game out there today. They hit Mussina hard, but the Orioles made
some good plays. Hammonds made a great diving catch to rob A-Rod of a hit,
but the BEST play of the game was a spactacular catch by Jay Buhner.
Johnson and Mussina both pitched good games and both made some good plays.
Randy finally got over his Oriole-phobia, but he gave up two homeruns and
an RBI single to give the Orioles a 3-1 win. The 1 run came from a solo
homer by Edgar Martinez. But hey, '97 was a great season. And if the
bullpen can shape up between now and next season, WORLD SERIES '98
HERE WE COME! Watch out, the '98 Mariners are gonna be HOT!
Next year, let's ROAST them birds!
