Apoya Eventos Apple y Macintosh 'Drag & Drop' (Arrastrar y Soltar).

La version 6.02c es una versión revisada sustancialmente con muchas
mejoras y arreglos de problemas. Usalo para analizar tus biorritmos,
determinar tus días buenos y malos, y también tu compatibilidad con
otros. Éste es un programa de 'Shareware'

    * Compatibilidad *

Drop' instalada o Sistema 7.5 o mayor.

    Shareware: $20 / £15

[*] Biorhythms 6.02c (English)

Biorhythms 6.02c (English)

Our minds, bodies and emotions are governed by three natural cycles,
known as biorhythms. Once we realize how we are affected, we can plan
our lives accordingly, so that we take advantage of our peaks of energy
and exercise special caution on “critical” days.

Biorhythms 6.02c is now highly acclaimed world-wide, and generally
agreed to be the most powerful, attractive and original biorhythms
program available on any platform. Use it to analyse your biorhythms, to
determine your good and bad days, and also your compatibility with
others.

Use Biorhythms 6.02c to display stunning chart images for
individuals or for couples. Compare 100+ individuals, each with one
another, and within seconds obtain a detailed compatibility report on
the group as a whole and the individuals within it. Exceptionally easy
to use, with a localized Spanish version to accompany the English
language version here.

    * Requirements *
Biorhythms 6.02c requires System 7 to run, though it works best with
System 7.5. It supports Apple events and Macintosh Drag and Drop.

This is a shareware program, with a registration fee of $20 or £15
and reduced rates for students and others.

[*] Desktop Pictures Grab Bag

Desktop Pictures Grab Bag contains two OS 8 Applescripts (text files) and
three "Desktop Pictures" JPEG's (double clickable).

For OS 8 only* The Applescript "Random Desktop Picture" randomly changes
the desktop picture using the "Desktop Pictures Control Panel." It needs to
have the path of the folder containing Pictures copied into it eg.
"Macintosh HD:Apple Extras:Sample Desktop Pictures:"
Save it either as an Applescript application (Checkmark in "Never Show
Startup Screen" box) for your Start Up Items folder or as a compiled script
to run under OSA Menu. Applescript code compliments of Apple - I Just
Rearranged.

These scripts have been tested on a Mac 6100/66, and virus checked with
latest Disinfectant. However, all the usual disclaimers apply. Whatever
happins is not my fault.

[*] Idea Keeper 1.0

Idea Keeper is a List, To Do, and Note Management Program for the
Macintosh. Use it to keep lists of important ideas, keep notes
organized, and manage to do lists and reference materials of all kinds.

This program is similar to the old "Stickies" in that it is based on
managing several windows of text. There the similarity ends. Idea
Keeper allows you to keep multiple sets of notes (called "Topics") in
which you can format text, insert links to other files, other notes in
the program, sounds, etc.

Idea Keeper allows you to create individual "ideas" (akin to Stickies
notes) stored in "Topics". The "user" can create up to 100 "Topics"
(folders), and each "Topic" can contain up to 100 "ideas" (files). Each
"idea" is displayed in a window, and the size is limited only by the
amount of memory the user assigns to Idea Keeper. If you like Idea
Keeper but you need more Topics or ideas, let me know and I'll modify
the program.

Idea Keeper displays one Topic at a time, allowing you to quickly
organize, view, and edit the ideas it contains. The user can choose to
open any number of idea windows for that Topic. As you switch from
Topic to Topic, opened windows and their position are always remembered
by Idea Keeper.

You can easily navigate from one Topic to another, copy or move
individual ideas between Topics, and create clickable-links between
ideas (even between different Topics). You can also import/export
Topics (folders) and ideas (files) in a Finder-friendly fashion.

To perform these tasks, Idea Keeper offers a variety of choices (menus,
shortcuts, mouse).

If you so desire, you can make Idea Keeper invisible or iconized when in
the background. Idea Keeper supports Balloon Help to make it easier to
find your way around without having to consult the documentation.
This program is $15 shareware.
Idea Keeper is released as fully-functional software. None of its
features are disabled. However until you have paid the shareware fee, a
message is displayed whenever Idea Keeper starts up and quits, reminding
you that Idea Keeper is shareware.

Netscape Preferences Fix provides a workaround for a bug found in
Netscape Navigator, versions 3.0 through 3.0.2, where Navigator sometimes
forgets what protocols have been registered by Seeker and other utilities
that register protocols (like "mailto" and "ftp") with Navigator,
including several AppleScript utilities created for today's popular email
and file transfer programs.

I originally included the Fix with my Seeker program way back in June,
1997, but people that may not be using Seeker can also benefit from the
Fix, and it's now available as a separate file. Thanks for the
inspiration, Tomas!

The Netscape Preferences Fix is free to registered users of Seeker.

More information about the Fix can be found at the Netscape Preferences
Fix home page, at
http://antioch-college.edu/~stefan/netscapepreferencesfix.html.

Enjoy!

[*] Teflon 2.1 -- adjusts or eliminates MacOS 8's sticky menus

MacOS 8 introduced a new feature called "sticky menus," where the menus
would stay down after the user clicked in the menu bar or on a pop-up menu.
In previous versions of the system software, on the other hand, the menus
would always go away after the user let go of the mouse button. If you
think the MacOS 8 sticky menus feature is an awful bit of interface design,
and wish Apple had allowed the user to adjust the "stickiness" of the
menus, you're not alone. Teflon is a simple little control panel that does
just that.

Teflon 2.1 adds the ability to make the menus drop down automatically
whenever the user moves the mouse pointer over the menu bar, and fixes some
minor bugs.

Teflon is freeware, and requires MacOS 8.

What is this group?

Is anyone else as distressed as I at the direction that I-M seems to
be taking? I-M used to be a community. The digests we get lately seem
all or mostly postings of software of varying general utility. I dunno
about y'all, but I don't see much if any utility personally. Or much
interest personally.

Last year we saw a new very bright and informed guru join the group. I
was properly impressed and sent him a note asking where he'd come from.
He said he'd been hanging around the comp/sys/mac/system newsgroup, but
it got trivial so he came to I-M. I haven't seen him lately, and I'm not
much surprised.

The newsgroup may be mostly trivial, but I'm finding it more interesting
than I-M. I certainly don't have to subscribe to I-M to access the files
in its archive. And I'm becoming progressively annoyed with digests that
are no more than ads for personally useless stuff going into the archive.

I'm certainly not against the archive. I was one who helped pay for a
larger I-M HD at Stanford a couple years back.

I just don't think the archive is all I-M should be about.

Your comments?

Yep. I think it's a Desktop Printer problem.

I'm using Netscape Communicator 4.01 and OT/PPP 1.0 with OT 1.1.2 and
experience these problems occasionally, but only rarely.

Yep!

Nope.

Yes, definitely. Often clears up by shutting down (power OFF), then
restarting, without resorting to replacing the Finder or its preference
file.

None of the above 3.

I'm on a Power (now Apple, I guess!) PowerCenter Pro 210, clean install,
virtual memory on. I wonder if the ATI or Iomega are involved (I have them
too)?

Ditto! I also wonder if MacOS 8 fixes any of this? Cheers,

CHRP question

I've not seen any firm statements on this issue (see
http://www.tidbits.com/ for the complete coverage we've done in TidBITS,
including some updates added throughout this week) but my suspicion is that
no, this wouldn't work for two reasons.

First, there are contracts to consider, and putting the shrinkwrap version
in the box may be a breach of contract.

Second and more important, the shrinkwrap version of Mac OS 8 undoubtedly
doesn't just work on CHRP machines. Apple was creating a version for that
purpose, and Motorola was probably working with a pre-release version of it
to show their CHRP machines in public at Macworld Expo in Boston. Motorola
certainly can't ship a pre-release version, and Apple can easily refuse to
give them the finished product, if it was even finished. Remember, CHRP
machines are quite different hardware, and the Mac OS is tied quite tightly
to the hardware. Moving to CHRP meant abstracting the hardware from the
software somewhat.

(Of course, I could be wrong - I don't have any inside knowledge on this
specific subject. This is just an educated guess.)

cheers... -Adam

HP 870Cse Driver problems

Dear Info-mac reader,
I am using System 8, and Chooser 7.6, and when I go to select the DJ 800
Series
Icon from the Chooser, I notice it has the phone port selected, even
though AppleTalk
is disabled. So I promptly select the printer port. But then it tells
me it can't detect the
printer even though the printer is wired up to that port and is powered
on. So I go to
close the Chooser, and the next time I open the Chooser the phone port
is selected again
for the DJ 800 Series. The setup correctly indicates it is a DJ 870
Series, when I hit that
button in the Chooser. So what is the problem? Why can't I select the
printer port for
my printer? Please reply via e-mail to abrody@vax.clarku.edu as there
is no guarantee
I'll be able to visit the digest in the near future. Thank you.

Hi Leo
Do you have the latest HP DeskWriter driver-I believe it is something
like 6.0.3. You can get it from the HP web site. Also if you are using
QuickDraw GX you might find getting rid of it or at least turning it off
in Extension Manager and restarting with the new driver installed might
solve it. GX has been nothing but headaches for me.
Good luck, John

Ps-what address did you use to post this question on Info-Mac Digest. I
forgot. Thanks

MIDI Manager/Driver

Hi,

I'm writing with a MIDI question this time. Does the Mac OS need a MIDI
Manager/Driver to control MIDI devices. I have Apple's old ones (like,
from 1993) in my system folder and I want to know if I need them. Any
ideas?

thanks

Netscape 4.03 Problems / Observations

I just d/l Netscape Navigator 4.03 and have noticed that mailto: tags do
nothing. They show up on the browser, but when clicked, nothing happens.
Is this unique to this version of Navigator? If so, is there a way to
force Navigator to use Eudora for mail when such a link is used. I
remember seeing an older application that allowed this, but do not know if
it works with this version of Navigator.

Also, I often use the pop-up menu item "Open Link in New Window". This
appears to be gone as well from this version of Navigator.

Could someone confirm these observations and possibly offer some work arounds?

Thanks in advance.

OS8 Random Freezes.....

I have installed OS8 and the AppleVision 1.5.3 update on my system. My
configuration is as follows:

PowerPC 7500 with Apple 132Mhz daughter card upgrade
1mb L2 cache from PowerLogix
HDT 2.0 formatting my Non-Apple Quantum 500MB HD
32 MB RAM
Ram cache set to 34 MB
AppleVision 1710 Monitor

All my childrens educational games (reader rabbit1, Deluxe Math Rabbit,
Lion Kin Activity Center, Playroom) randomly freeze and I must reboot.
Most of the times it is possible to use the keyboard reset but never
cmd-esc. Sometimes I must power on and off with the button on the front
panel.

As for other applications, I too get some crashing but it is infrequent.
With the kids games it is possible with in 5 minutes to take the system
down.

I would like to hear some possible solutions that exist short of
downgrading.... system software, daughter card or L2.

Thank you for your help.

PageMaker & LW12/640

Interesting problem, folk. I'm hoping one of you might help. Adobe sure
wasn't able to.

I got my wife a 7300 for her birthday to replace her aging C650. And I
reinstalled her heavy duty software to get the PPC versions. It seems that
PageMaker 6.5 didn't give a rip that LW8 8.4.2 was already there. It put
in LW 8.3.1, a driver notorious for not knowing about our new LW 12/640.

No, the 68k version of PM didn't know about the 12/640 either.

I didn't know that PM was 12/640-challenged until Leslye tried printing
to cover stock. I had told her to select the face-up output tray for such
things. Even envelopes. The 12/640 is a picky beast.

She could not tell PM to select the f-u tray. She yelled at me. I tried
the option-print runaround to get the Apple driver and got a rather old
fashioned dialog that didn't know about the f-u option either. That's
when I fingered that Adobe's installer had overwritten 761's LW8 driver.
I reinstalled LW 842 on her machine. PM 6.5 (even with the 651 update)
didn't recognize the 12/640's f-u tray option. It *did* recognize that
option if the Apple driver was invoked (option-print).

I called Adobe. Long distance. On my nickel.

Yes I can spell "waste of time."

That can't happen, sir. It did happen? It can't be our fault. The PPD for
the 12/640 has Adobe in the copyright notice? A mere legal thing. You are
being rude, sir. Betcher ass, sweetie.

I was about as rude as I know how to be with that clueless sweet thang.

Heck, being nice got me nowhere.

OK. Adobe is useless. Have any of y'all figured out how to print to a
LW 12/640 from the latest PM? With all options active?

Al Bloom
