The Scottish Junior Cup Team of 1953 - 1954

Life in Dundee was hard in the early years of the 20th century particularly for the immigrant Irish workers who had come to
Lochee to work in the jute mills.
The people lived in a close environment, tightly packed into tenements supplied by the mill owners. Looking after their children and working long hours meant the men had very little money to spend and rare free time for relaxation.
The church played an important role in their lives and in an effort to introduce a small measure of enjoyment, priests and church workers decided to form a football club.

In 1904 Lochee Harp was born.

The club was an immediate success in the community and this success was repeated on the football field with Harp capturing the League Championship in their first season 1904 - 1905. This feat was repeated in season 1906 - 1907 and within Harp's first few years, the club won the League Championship THREE TIMES and added SEVEN CUPS to its Roll of Honour.

Lochee Harp's most succesful period was undoubtedly in the late 1920's and early 1930's. The League Championship was won in FOUR SUCCESSIVE seasons.

Half a century later the club won THREE League Championships in a row. 1983 - 84, 1984 - 85 and 1985 - 86. Since it's formation, in 1904 the club has won 23 League Championships in all. It has reached the final of the Scottish Junior Cup and played in four semi-finals.

During the 1930's many players were Capped for Scotland and, during one season , FIVE players were capped with THREE appearing in one international.

Lochee Harp has been the Stepping Stone to success for scores of players who moved on to senior clubs.

On the same day in 1885 that Arbroath set an all-time Scottish League record by beating Aberdeen Bon Accord 36 - 0, Dundee Harp, who were the forerunners of Lochee Harp beat Aberdeen Rovers 35 - 0
