Ma's new army

In one week last year, Ma brought forth his new army of distance runners to the front page again.

Coach Ma Junren's runners, Jiang Bo, Dong Yanmei 17, as well as Shangdong Province's Liu Shixiang broke the women's 5,000 metres world record at the All China Games in Shanghai. Dong won the race with a world-record time of 14:31.27. The old record was 14:36.45.

All women distance running world records from 1500 to 10,000 meter now belong to chinese runners. (last updated Feb 1, 98)
