The first programme not published by CCMC since 1982, this issue was the thinnest hitherto issued and, coupled with the 7,000+ attendance at the game, led to the CIAU deciding to reconsider its approach--with unfortunate consequences!

Vanier Cup programme magazines were not produced from 1998 through 2000; instead, the CIAU placed an insert section in the Toronto Sun each year, giving the team line-ups and a few brief articles. Copies of this section, often in quite tattered condition even before the gates opened, were distributed at the stadium on admission. The result was a remarkaly unprofessional (indeed somewhat embarrassing) product. Each insert was eight pages in length, inserted in newspapers as follows:

1998: inserted in Toronto Sun, 26 November 1998
1999: inserted in Toronto Sun, 25 November 1999
2000: inserted in Toronto Sun, dated 2 December 2000, but possibly inserted in 30 November issue.

The sections should be available on microfilm reels of the Sun newspaper.
